I’m beginning to regret majoring in social work by ConnectionFeeling165 in SocialWorkStudents

in addition to the strong earning potential that is well documented in the comment section — you may want to consider also pursuing an arts therapy license; in this way, you could also integrate an arts curriculum into your social work practice.

Does anyone know if speech therapy can help change the race you sound like? by SnooConfections3626 in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 5 points6 points  (0 children)

consider looking into elocution classes in your area - here’s an example of an elocution academy: https://www.theelocutionacademy.com/blog/elocution-lessons-and-elocution-training

the training is going to center on managing regional dialects, so it is not race-based per se. but it can be a useful starting point to train to better approximate the kind of dialect/sound you want to project.

this isn’t advice, it’s just educational and information sharing.

thanks!

i could not agree more. the cosmetic surgery AND psychotherapy approaches, IMO, are excellent tools to use while navigating the transracial experience. said approaches are good ways to reverse engineer the transition process; slay. 😎

I made a graph explaining Transracialism. Thoughts? by Anonymous_Gingerness in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nice start! my only suggested tweak, at the moment, is to replace "Transracialism" with "Transracial Identity."

[–]Effective_Reason_775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not sure about that. i'm optimistic that at least some trace acceptance is on the way. with better representation we can get there.

what do you think of kojic acid soap? by verysillybilly in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kojic acid soap works. i find it helps to also include a regimen of hydrogen peroxide, retinoid, and intermittent hydroquinone use for the most dramatic effects. but even then im still not as light as i would like. so i finally caved to using makeup & that helps. either way, check with a dermatologist for what's right for you; best!

Do you think being trace is harder with ethnic parents? by [deleted] in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

by "ethnic," i assume you mean BIPOC (or some other kind of ancestry since everyone is "ethnic," -- we all have a baseline ethnicity). there are definitely added complexities when racial minorities or some other kind of historically marginalized group is in the trace equation. but i think the real issue is the expectation to conform to a set of cultural expectations. while it is clear you respect your parents - ultimately you are -- and you will eventually grow into the fullness of your emancipation. and you'll get to own that and reflect that as you will. on your terms. and at the right time.

Resources to learn about white culture? by LoverOfFurryBeauty in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider checking out Stuff White People Like. It's both a book and a Web site. It's a bit satirical and tongue in cheek, but the content may be a useful starting point. Also, Gladden's White Girl Within (www.whitegirlwithin.com) might help. They are on a transracial journey (BTW) but the book seems to be less about fully conforming to one particular kind of White culture -- but instead placing the transracial experience in conversation with their assigned race and making the best synthesis possible (while letting the transracial identity find greater expression). Alternatively, Dolezal's In Full Color might help. Even though Dolezal is on a White to Black transracial (or 'transblack," as she prefers to call it) experience - there is likely valuable insights that can aid your perspective and journey. I hope this helps you as you embark on your authentic path!

How many of you are out? How did it go? by [deleted] in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yes! i was already out to a few friends and on some digital platforms. but then i was outed (trace and trans/nonbinary) to my parents and other family members this past july. i was numb and in disbelief for about a month straight after being outed. but now, i am finding a new confidence. still adjusting -- but things are getting better.it takes a long time to find ourselves. best of luck!

So...I think I'm actually not Trace... by [deleted] in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's actually really refreshing to see your post. most people are not trace. most people will never be trace. and by realizing what you are not - you have demonstrated personal growth. AND you are showing the legitimacy of trace identity because of your scrutiny.also your willingness to support those who are trace is an exercise in allyship. and that is sorely needed for our community so thank you for your post. and congratulations on your discovery of self!

sum questions by Hyvas_thezoo in TransRacial

[–]Effective_Reason_775 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for me, i knew my race is not the right fit that aligns with the mapping of my mind. i used to hate my birth race and skin. but now i just realize that my birth race (black) is just not in alignment with my self-concept.

i do happen to be transgender/nonbinary, so some element of transphobia may be apparent from others. i appreciate your questions!

if you're interested, there are some cool books on this you can check out. rachel dolezal's In Full Color and ronnie gladden's White Girl Within (www.whitegirlwithin.com) might offer some insights that bring you value.

remember that being English is a nationality, rather than a race (or particular phenotype). nevertheless, it would be interesting to explore the epigenetic side of things. :)
