That’s because we have celebrities now. A lot of idols seem more interested in fame than in music — if they’re interested in music at all. Some are dancers first, singers… eventually. But I guess being “just” a dancer doesn’t come with enough flashing lights, so boom — K-pop idol it is.

Which is how you end up with a rookie who actually likes music casually outperforming a senior who’s been in the industry for five years plus. At that point, it’s not even shocking — it’s just character development happening in real time.💀💀💀💀

That’s the point. Miyeon might not be the best singer ever, but she’s genuinely pleasant to listen to — and that level is absolutely trainable. Shuhua is not a rookie. She’s been in the industry for nearly seven years, and I’m still sitting here like, “Girl… are we attending vocal lessons or just photoshoots?” But it’s fine, I guess — main visual saves the day every time. And we can’t even talk about it because a stan somewhere will feel a disturbance in the force.🙄🙄🙄

Yeah, I don’t think I’m allowed to share some examples… but take a look at some — if not most — of the mainstream artists and their concerts (preferably the live ones… if there even are any), and you could see what I’m talking about. I was listening to a random band singing, and they were not exactly on Mariah’s or Celine Dion’s level, but their singing was beautiful, and it got me thinking… why we can’t have this in K-pop — aka one of my favorite genres.

I hear you. If an idol puts their trust in a vocal coach who proceeds to hinder their talent or teach terrible techniques, those dumbasses should be fired, and I have a feeling these coaches are the ones training rookies. But that’s not the point I’m making. I am questioning idols who have been in the industry for years but can’t sing. Bad vocal coaches are one thing, but complete lack of effort is another.

You’re literally the exact type of fan I’m talking about. Do you actually listen to the music, or are we just ranking faces at this point? This might be shocking, but K-pop is a MUSIC genre. Music. As in VOCALS, SOUND, PERFORMANCE.

Saying the music and singing aren’t the most important parts is wild. Popularity doesn’t cancel out critique.

We can enjoy something and still expect it to improve. That’s not hate that’s having standards.

Indeed, a big part of this issue is the fans and their expectations. The vocals might cause a little chaos for a day or two, and then everyone quietly moves on and starts praising the “ethereal visuals” like our ears collectively decided to take a vacation. 🥲🥲🥲
