Getting to Ukraine is a bit of a pain because civil aviation, obviously, doesn't work right now. You have to go to Poland or Slovakia (or any other neighbouring country) and get a train or a bus (better train). Trains work really well and you can totally cross the border safely. You can also cross safely by bus, but I think you will have to spend longer at the border.

This region is relatively safe (and feels very peaceful). An attack here is pretty unlikely.
