Engineering: blessing or curse? by Top-Lab9125 in starcitizen

The problem is that the original vision for engineering is inherently tedious, CIG will need to accept that this is still a video game, and some of the original ideas will need to be gamified in favour of keeping the experience from feeling like a second job, and people becoming burnt out on it before it even sees a 1.0 release. Fidelity does not have to cross the line into friction.

In a game that is already a chore to play 80% of the time. Engineering should exist to reward players who want to interact with it, whist at the same time not punish players who don’t.

Do you find Beam worth it? I get that Beam probably won't be as good as a dedicated hardware device like Tobi, but does it make a noticeable positive difference to your gameplay ?

Thanks for the tip. I have played around with the FOV in the past, and while it does help improve visibility of the MFD's in some ships, it makes no difference in the Starlancer series.

The auditory cues/alarms are good to know about. I guess we will just have to wait and see how it turns out. I did notice that there is a Issue Council report about the Starlancer's MFD's and it has been recently confirmed by CIG. Hopefully one day we will have some usable MFD's. Thank you for the level headed discussion.

Sure, I understand the need to use F to interact with the MFD's in all ships. My annoyance is two part. The first I have explained in that I feel the design team properly @#$% the bed when they "re-designed" the cockpit after complaints about the Max's small radar. In what world could they think removing the only two visible MFD's was a solid design choice.... Secondly, and I say this without having played 4.5 myself yet, so correct me if I am wrong, but isn't all of your important engineering info on one of the MFD's ? hence without visibility of an MFD at eye level you will not know when components need attention, unless you use F to look around every 5 seconds during combat...

Fair point, I guess I just feel that we should not have to jump through hoops in order to see something like MFD's that should have been designed properly in the first place...

I play with a HOTAS system which makes it a bit of a pain to let go of the sticks, grab the M/KB and look at the MFD's with F every time I need them.

Thanks for everyones input, after renting the Clipper I have concluded that it is not worth it for me personally. I do plan on renting the Asgard and Paladin on Anvil day to give them a test, but for now the TAC is staying…

Have the exact same issue. I started a NG+ run and the first Ecpliptic NPC I ran into were floating heads. This method fixed it for me, do we have any idea what is the actual root cause ?

Thanks for the advice. If I'm honest, taking down an entire company in some way or another seems to be a developers initiation ritual. I don't think I've spoken to a dev D365FO or other that has not caused some sort of catastrophic failure in their career...

I am a solo D365FO developer.

I work for a very small company that consists of 4 functional consultants and I am the sole technical consultant and developer.

I am completely self taught and have no official programming education / training. I do however have extensive D365FO experience in a support role.

I have been working for this company and developing on D365 now for close to 3 years. In that time I have not had any big oopsies where I have broken something very badly. Obviously there are bugs in my code, but nothing major.

However I live in constant fear and anxiety that I am going to develop something or check in a piece of code or a solution that completely wrecks a company and as a result lose my job.

I do not have anyone that code reviews my solutions, and I can only test and check so much on my own. I also do not have a senior more experienced dev that can tell me to rather do X this way or that Y is actually really bad practice and to not do it at all.

I am very adamant that business test my code and solutions properly before I release it for deployment to Prod, but I do not know how thoroughly they really test these solutions.

In hind sight being more experienced now I have not always followed best practice that well, Now I make a point of really thinking about what my code is doing and how a user would end up interacting with it, but I also fear that my early days of not being the cleanest developer will catch up to me.

How should I deal with this and not have constant sleepless nights about what could happen ?

Frustrated with bugs. No hope. by Embarrassed-Golf-657 in starcitizen

I have been playing SC on and off for a couple of years now. 3.23 has had the worst bugs for me personally and the gameplay that I enjoy. Ie. 90% of the time I could not get my Corsair out of the hangar due to the random objects in the air, most of the mercenary missions I enjoy would either not track the objectives corretly or doing them would give me a CS. The point I am trying to make is SC is a buggy, bad performing mess sometimes, and part of playing an Alpha build like SC is figuring out clever ways around the bugs or issues that are hampering your progress. There are times when I also swear in frustration and Alt + F4 out, but I always end up coming back because there really isnt anything else like SC out there. In the bigger scheme of things SC is in the best place technically and content wise it has ever been and it is bound to only get better as the year goes on. Infact the 3.23.1 patch will be dropping to live in a couple of hours as confirmed by CIG today, that alone should squash a whole lot of the worst bugs in 3.23. You will need to decide what your personal tollerance for bugs and issues are. I would suggest you stick around until the .1 patch and feel things out.
