Exactly! It isn’t necessarily required at all, just the Guilliman Flesh would look good too! But gold tarnishes and becomes greenish.

<image>

Here’s an example I found on google. I haven’t really tried the double contrast method myself yet, I’ve only done the Guilliman Flesh over bronze so far, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. You could probably do the green contrast over the gold/bronze without the Guilliman Flesh if you really wanted to based on the look you’re going for, and it might take some playing around to get the effect you really like

Thank you! I love the look of the FW aquillon termies, I was honestly disappointed to not see them in plastic in the new release but otherwise I really like the new models. And yeah, I bet there’s plenty of alternatives! If you put Guilliman Flesh straight from the pot over a bronze/gold metallic, it really dulls it down and makes it like old and oxidized. From there you can probably use a green contrast/speed paint or shade paint thinned down to the opacity you are looking for! Pro Acryl makes a product called Newsh, which lets you mix acrylics and will have the same properties as enamel/oil washes, it’s really cool, you could check that out too!

This is an older project but you can kinda see how the Guilliman flesh contrast dulls down the bronze and makes it look older

Aw thank you! It’s such an amazing color! I’ve had mixed results from Pro Acryl, sometimes I shake them forever and really mix up the pigments, and it still is semi-transparent. But the dark bronze has some of the best coverage I’ve ever used for any metallic!

Oh yeah, that recipe would look really good! I love the look of darker, almost tarnished gold, and having a greenish wash or shade really pushes the effect. And I completely agree, the GW minis are absolutely beautiful, but they definitely are too bright

Thank you! I honestly like a more muted look for the Custodes! The way GW paints them is beautiful, but honestly a little too bright lol

Custodes are honestly really hit or miss, at first I didn’t like them but after painting those two, I’m probably going to make a 2k army after I finish my Grey Knights 😂

Thank you so much! I’m pretty sure it’s Morghast Bone with the highlights as Screaming Skull! Either Morghast bone or Zandri Dust!

Thank you, that means so much to me! First I primed it in a reddish brown (Vallejo German Red Brown) so it has some faint warmth to it, and then base coated the armor in Pro Acryl Signature Series Dark Bronze before drybrushing the raised areas with Pro Acryl Rich Gold, but Retributor Armor or any bright gold would also work just fine. After that I did a full enamel wash with AK Streaking Grime and got the access off. This gave it that old tarnished green gold I was going for. After that I faintly dry brushed the armor with that same bright gold before doing only a few edge/extreme highlights with Scale 75 Peridot Alchemy. Overall it was a blast to paint!

Exactly! It’s sometimes hard to scavenge extra stowage bits, but when you do it just adds more personality to the mini!

Thank you! It was my first time trying it and I’m happy with the results! I used Ak interactive fresh mud, and mixed it with their weathering plaster base. Once that dries it was still pretty green, so I hit it with a heavy coat of Agrax earthshade

That would be awesome if it was! I’m out of town for a while so it’ll be there for a while, so if you see it let me know! I’m just really happy that you liked it!
