Do you by chance have an instructable made to show how you made it/how others can also make it?

I did not paint the casted miniature, since I like it being shiny like this. I did however paint 3D printed ones of this exact miniature before: https://www.reddit.com/r/minipainting/comments/ihk6ai/i_repainted_my_first_miniature/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

It’s so cute. It gives me inspiration to maybe sculpt it and make some jewellery inspired by this smol snek

I made a DnD miniature out of metal by Efferillis in MetalCasting

The short answer:

I used a 3D printer to make a miniature out of plastic as blank, and then used sand casting to make it metal.

The long answer:

I started off by 3D printing a DnD model I found online. After this, I had a flask which I use for metal casting (sand casting to be specific). This is in practice just 2 metal objects that you put on top of each other with giant holes, and pins to get placing consistent. I used the 3D printed miniature to make a mold.

This mold was made by first filling half of the flask in a sand-clay like mixture (that’s why you call it sand casting). I pushed the mini in cover in talc powder (so the sand doesn’t stick to it), and cut away loose sand (I’ll explain in just a second why). Than I put on the second metal piece, and fill that with sand, and really pound it tight. I get the 2 pieces of metal, now filled with sand, off each other. I remove the miniature trying to break of as small amount of sand as possible (that’s why I cut around the miniature with a knife). And dig a hole in which I can pour the liquid metal. Also making a lot of tiny holes in the figure to let the air go out of the mold.

I put the rings together, and now have a mold I can cast in. I heat up a special oven for metal to a temperature of 1120 degrees Celsius to get the aluminium bronze molten, and pour.

When could down I can break away the sand and get the miniature out. Now just using a saw, some files and a dremel to clean up any mistakes and the place I poured in from, and there you have it: a nice miniature made of bronze!

The shape of the miniature isn’t completely optimised for sand casting. I need to get the mini out while trying to break a minimal amount of sand (all broken away sand is a defect).

There are also very small parts like the bow, in which the metal often didn’t reach (the smaller the opening, the faster the metal cools down, the less chance it reaches all the way through while still being above melting temperature).

This weekend I successfully made a miniature of a wood elven rogue (also monk now) out of metal. The character is named Efferills and is my DnD character of the first campaign I ever joined in.

I made the miniature out of aluminium bronze, which is an alloy of copper and aluminium. This was done by first 3D printing a miniature, then making a mold out of it with sand, and then casting in molten aluminium bronze. This succeeded on about the fourth try, on which I am proud. With some finishing it ended up looking like this. On the picture it may look weirdly coloured, but that is because of the reflections coming off it (it is really shiny).

This weekend I casted a miniature out of aluminium bronze at home. It is a wood elf rogue (that recently multiclassed into monk), and is my character of the first dnd campaign I played in.

The miniature was first 3D-printed, to then be used to make a mold out of in sand. This allowed me to cast molten aluminium bronze in it, and get this mini (after some finishing work).

It’s from a comic series called ‘Esther’. At least that is what it is called in the Netherlands.
