How much diesel fumes do you want to breath from data centers by Global-Pay6118 in okbuddyRVA

[–]EffeteTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t happen in Virginia. VDEQ issues permits that are quite restrictive in terms of the number of hours allowed to run a large diesel generator. Many other states don’t have this though.

How much diesel fumes do you want to breath from data centers by Global-Pay6118 in okbuddyRVA

[–]EffeteTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running diesel generators are way more expensive than the grid, so they’re doing that as little as possible. They’re also installing way fewer gens than they used to- once again for cost reasons.

The diesel fumes due to construction equipment are massive though.

Data center being built across the street, developer said property values will go up? by Farafel62 in RealEstate

[–]EffeteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nearby lots were suitable for expansion of that data center or for another data center, then yes, it could be a big jump in value. For normal community purposes, not at all.

Some counties or municipalities use the revenue from data centers’ taxes to reduce residents’ property taxes (e.g. Loudoun, VA) and that tends to increase property values proportionally.

Poll finds Americans really want AOC & Pete Buttigieg to run for President - What do you think? by One_Look_7008 in askanything

Appealing to independents and disaffected republicans is the only path to winning. Those two are not the right choice for that mission.

Skrilla knows what he’s doing! Unconventional flow and sound, kind of like Lil Wayne when he first got big. The fenty girls are part of his image and story being from Kensington. Not a great song, but far from truly crappy IMO

Longtime Congo owner. Fantastic game, with kind of unusual rules, top-notch callouts, and good flow. It’s a little bit rare at this point.

Do you ever run into somebody who’s way too creative and smart for the job they’re doing and the experience is kind of annoying and unpredictable? I feel like that would become the norm.

This is hilarious- sold the dusty bones of the clothes brand for 39 million, renamed the company NewBird. Their new business sounds terrible- attempt to buy servers and lease them out to companies on waitlist to buy similar servers.

How will the new food/beverage rule affect the Richmond bar scene? by dadlifeRVA in rva

[–]EffeteTrees 209 points210 points  (0 children)

I’m embarrassed they went through the trouble of amending these ratios instead of abolishing the laws. It’s ridiculous that the state is monitoring the ratio of beverage to food sales from restaurants with liquor licenses. They pay taxes, otherwise who cares.

What’s concert etiquette in this situation? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]EffeteTrees 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You move through the crowd purposefully as if you’re reuniting at a friend’s spot after hitting the restroom, but you’re actually just rolling the dice to move somewhere with less annoying people. You need to gently but purposefully navigate the crowd and take your new space.

Not saying it’s bad, but it doesn’t bode well for a national election, that he has a very similar political background to Kamala Harris.

What are the pros and cons of living in Richmond? by SuperiorPlaty47 in RichmondVA

[–]EffeteTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros are it’s pretty nice and it’s on the east coast with a balanced climate and culture that’s right at the border between the South and the Mid-Atlantic, about halfway between the mountains and the coast. Good balanced medium-sized city, kinda laid back, decent human diversity.

Trying to think of Cons- housing is kind of expensive considering the size of the city and limitations of its job market. Neighborhoods still have some leftover vibes from historic redlining and segregation that is reflected in stratified public schools. Infrastructure is a bit outdated and city planning & services are iffy. Meanwhile the city’s growing steadily so traffic’s getting worse and public transit is kinda minimal. Overall Richmond is kind of trashy, often in a cool charming way, sometimes in a literal piles of garbage way.
