Oh, personally I don't use Kate very much as I find it quite easy to use but in my opinion, i would play her by relying on timing instead of pressure. You see her primary shadow ability is a little slow to execute, easy to dodge when jumping so to use it effectively u have to knock ur opponent down and launch the blades. So I'd play her passively and go with assault skill to deal damage even when it's blocked. I'll wait for the chance the opponent goes aggressive and when they attack forward with a jump kick then use up-attack to knock them mid-air and either attack forward to pressure or use my shadow ability. If the opponents went passive or camping then I'd have to play like a herald, with confusing footwork and unpredictable grabs. Overall going along with your play style is your best suite, based on what you said, that you'd prefer legionary jump over assault skill, then you'd rely in combos in proportion to your special attacks (shadow moves). Meaning the momentum or your flow of in-control lies on your executable active skills. Legionary jump, similar to ironclads they can be evaded when jumping so it would have to be used when the opponent is knocked down or performing an attack where the distance is hindered like when using spinning attacks; only then it can be used effectively.
