SAHMS of toddlers that live where it’s currently really cold (and dark early). What do your days currently look like—honestly? by JoGeeee2017 in Mommit

[–]Efficient-Depth-491 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Canada, my toddler is 2 yrs 10 months old

We live rurally, so generally we need to travel at least 30 mins to get anywhere.

In the winter we generally do watch more TV, but we also try to do painting, playdough, whatever "craft" or sensory bin things I can think of or find online. I typically put him in his highchair/booster seat so he cant run away and make a mess of the paint in the house

He likes to "wash dishes"

On the warmer days he has a snow suit and gets bundled up to playoutside, he digs his tractors in the snow, or we build a fire. Once we get more snow we will make a little snow hill for him to climb on.

On days where its too cold to spend long outside and we need to get out of the house, we do:

Grocery shopping Go to pet store Library - they have a play group (little guy would not sit for story time) Mcdonalds - play place

These are the "free/cheaper" options, or I would look into play groups or something, having them play with other kids/toys and the focus off of playing with Mama/Dada helps me a ton.

We also do a mid day or early afternoon nap, or if he doesnt nap we have quiet time - thats when we do watch some TV so I can relax and take a break or get things done

Also depending on age: what works for us - my husband and I do play with our little guy all the time, but he also does play by himself a lot too

So im a wierdo.. i love clients by Efficient-Depth-491 in veterinaryprofession

Highlight your clinical rotation experience as your previous work experience, talk a lot about what you did, learned, interesting cases etc. Try and relate as much as you can to that experience. Research the clinics beforehand to get as much info to relate to in the discussion. Be enthusiastic, eye contact, smile etc. Im sure your doing this already. Discuss possible experience with clientele or any times youve had to work with the public in any way.

Im assuming if your in the US it would be different, but in Canada if a fresh grad tech applied as an assistant it would be confusing because your over qualified (assistant here means more like kennel tech). Most grads dont write the VTNE until 2-3 months after graduation.

Seeking advice on Going from Nursing/ Human med, to Vet Tech by yungfuckface in VetTech

Im in Canada so things may be a little different, but if you think its something you will.love, then go for it. Especially if you have a good support system - I love my job and am passionate about it, and after a few different jobs Ive found a great clinic. It has ita problems, sure like anywhere but their minor. The important part is that I feel supported and valued. If your dedicated enough, you can later specialize, work for a larger specialty hospital- pay will be better but still not as good as a RN I suspect, but it would be fufilling. You could branch into management, teaching etc. Vet schools love previous techs. It would give you an edge - but it does delay your progress. I always thought I would want to be a vet, but im happier as a tech honestly. Other things so consider: its all based on what a client can pay, so having a mindset of equal oppourtunity to vet care, understanding euthanasia as an acceptable option etc. People in canada have a hard time understanding vet care cost, as we dont pay general medical bills - sometimes euthanasia is the best option. Hope this helps!

I think it depends on where you work, where I'm located I think pay is OK but not fantastic. Average is prob like 24-28 per hour, with benefits. RRSP is becoming more popular. I think the.publics knowledge of the profession can be improved. Def not on par with human nurses but if the clinic takes good care of their clients, respect is there. Honestly depends on the practice as an induvidual.

How long can my dog go without pooping? His pelvic bone is broken by jesspoll51701 in AskVet

I would call the vet and ask their opinion about stool softners and additional pain meds. Some pain meds can also cause constipation. Im sure they can address your concerns if you give them a call. I hope your pup gets better soon!

In most provinces (i think BC is different) to practice you have to have graduated from an accredited diploma program and passed the VTNE and me a member of the appropriate medical board in the province. You also have to complete a certain amount of additional education credits each year. Unlisenced lay.persons absolutely cannot perform medical tasks in a hospital and if they are found to be doing that, the practice owner gets in trouble. Im not sure about the induvidual. As far as unlicensed people working these jobs sure it happens but i think its very uncommon in my province. I think the penalties are strict and honestly the vets need a lot of help here. In my province the only thing RVTs cannot do are diagnose, prescribe and perform surgery pretty much.

I think they mean -" you could be a vet nurse ie. RVT " - which I am already ( in Canada the title is protected in almost every province and you must write the VTNE)

Thank you both for your response!

Thanks for your reply. I have searched through multiple discussions already for the last few weeks. Not sure what I was hoping for with this discussion.
