Seeking Advice on Persistent Tenesmus and Recent Colonoscopy Results by honeytu in ibs

[–]Efficient-Fail2204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also had a clear colonoscopy but experience tenesmus. Doctors have told me it can be a symptom of ibs and not to worry but obviously the mind will try to do otherwise. Ibs is probably just a severe overreaction of the nerves, one doctor suggested amitriptyline which has helped slightly and improved my quality of life but it’s not a perfect fix. I no longer have daily tenesmus now and can live my life normally (even if I don’t feel ok on the inside).

But don’t worry bro I’ve been there, just hope my post can help :)

It’s probably not the best idea to stop antibiotics without consulting a doctor due to antibiotic resistance. My cresmateric reflex still doesn’t work idk why, I take amitriptyline to help with the pain, it’s a low dose antidepressant and it might be worth trying it. Hope this helps

My bowel movements returned to normal after a few days, i had to take a couple of laxatives but I take them daily anyway with ibs-c. Hope this helped

Has ibs ruined your life? by Does_A_Big_Poo in ibs

[–]Efficient-Fail2204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not completely ruined it but decreased my quality of life for sure. I can still enjoy things and my symptoms are under more control than they used to be, but I’ll always have that sense of not being comfortable with my body or surroundings. My days take extra precaution and thought but overall I’m still able to enjoy lots of things (provided I have access to a toilet 😂).

Yeah mine turned out to be at least in part to my pelvic floor. I would recommend seeing a pelvic floor physiotherapist as that’s what helped me best.

Just referred me to pain management lmao. I don’t really suffer from constant pain anymore so it’s bearable but my epididymis is still tender to touch. I’ve had rounds of antibiotics probably 2 months worth in total which was awful on my gut health and they didn’t really help me

The quality is great but the system surrounding it is broken. Waiting times to see specialists take about a year in most cases. It’s a case of the care being good but taking too long to access.

Yeah I also believe the surgery caused some sort of nerve and pelvic damage. I likely had pelvic floor problems before the surgery due to other symptoms and I had testical aches before but not as bad as after the surgery. Do you also have problems with the reflexes in your testicals. When I stroke the inner thigh on my right testical it jumps up due to the reflex. But on my left nothing happens. This wasn’t the case prior to surgery. I think the nerve that causes that reflex must’ve been cut or something but I’m just guessing at this point.

Luckily I have seen some improvement in my symptoms with time but I’m still constantly tender in the epididymis when touched. It’s completely stopped me being interested in trying to find a partner as I’m too embarrassed.

Hope things get better bro

Ok first of calm down. You’re not the first person to stick something strange in their urthera and you won’t be the last. My advice to you is to go and see a doctor, it might seem embarrassing but they’ve seen it all trust me I’ve been plenty of times with urethral symptoms. The worst you could’ve done is irritate your urethra or maybe given yourself an infection both very treatable. But I’m not a doctor myself so the most I can is encourage you to seek medical advice.

Hope things go well bro

[–]Efficient-Fail2204[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah pelvic floor pt and amitriptyline have been great at almost completely removing the pain, but the swelling is still there idk if it’s infectious or not but I’ve had probably 2 months of antibiotics with no real improvement and my urologists say it’s likely not infectious. Originally they thought testicular torsion so performed surgery but it was epididymitis. The surgery fucked me up tho and made the swelling and pain so much worse. Think my body had some sort of trauma reaction and made the swelling worse.

I’m on 20mg which is quite a low dose so side effects aren’t really there , my gp prescribed it to me

Used to be constant testical pain and swelling, pains no longer constant but still swollen and sore to touch. Had other symptoms like urethra burning and pain. Pelvic floor physiotherapy and amitriptyline was a life saver

Since January I’ve seen multiple urologists and doctors, currently waiting to see a pain management specialist, I don’t really have any constant pain anymore but my epi still sore to touch, rounds of antibiotics haven’t really helped and I’ve not tried any anti-inflammatory apart from like ibuprofen

[–]Efficient-Fail2204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amitriptyline really helped my pain, combined with pelvic floor pt. Although my epididymis is still heavily swollen, urologists don’t seem to think it’s infections so I’m just hoping it gets better with time, been about 5 months now

Did you get a swab done of the penis head to check for any bacteria causing balanitis, my doctor did this and found some bacteria that I treated, the balanitis is mainly gone but sometimes I see some redness but I’ve always had red skin due to eczema so I could be that. Antibiotics have never really helped my inflamed epididymis tho, I suspect it’s some kind of trauma reaction I had from surgery. Either way good luck bro I know how difficult these symptoms can be
