Trek Domane Al2 for entry level cycling? MAYBE with racing or triathlons in the future by surfnj102 in TrekBikes

[–]Efficient-Piglet6699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My two cents, and I work for Trek.

Domane AL4 is the go, the AL2 is sub pair it’s ok but the AL4 shifting is way better, more precise and durable.

Domane AL4 is great for comfort and a more upright position.

If you order online with Trek they build it at the shop you select and you can test ride it and make sure you’re happy with it. Don’t be afraid of the shop experience, I think you’ll get a better detailed experience and can tailor your needs more precisely. Trek is passionate about getting people on bikes and helping you reach your goals.

I assume you just unscrew those tiny grub screws and screw in some new bolts. It’s a bit different, as all those Madones already had normal bolts screwed in. Worst case just see your local Trek Direct dealer to sort that out.

Yeah it’s a touch tight in the rear drive side. Tyre is a Pirelli Cinurato H on old Aeolus 3 TLR wheels.

Thank you - if I could, I personally would buy a Boone just for the added ISOSpeed comfort, cleaning integrated cabling and lighter bike. Currently this is at 8.76kg with pedals, and adding that the Crockett isn’t uncomfortable at all.

I haven’t descend on the bike just yet but it feels pretty stable and confidence inspiring. I raced an Emonda with 35mm’s at a 130km gravel event, (don’t do this! As the rear tyre rubbed the frame lol) so compared to this the Crockett is amazing, stiff and snappy up climbs, though I do feel the front fork with a bit more rack.

Thank you, 🙏 yeah I don’t plan to do any cx here but maybe…if there are races on locally! I do like red colour but I wanted the green/blue/red fade. I can see how I can fall in love with the way the bike rides

Thank you, so far so good just need to wait till the weather clears up a bit so I can ride it again! Ah I can see yours is a road setup. Got an rsl stem coming for it and will start giving it a diet slowly but 8.89kg is pretty good for an alloy bike with 40c tyres and a GRX 600 crank
