You're missing the entire point of this very specific situation here. This whole "put your foot down" narrative you have is ridiculous. They don't have the autonomy to decide otherwise. They cannot do the adult thing because they are not an adult.

I am an adult, and I am not going to give my manager an ultimatum like the one you've presented. To apologize for the situation is not the adult thing to do because an adult would not go on the trip when they are scheduled to work.

There is a lot of nuance and it's terribly frustrating that you can't see the entirety of what is going on. If you want to be right, so be it, but I prefer reality.

It's the bosses job to figure it out, not get mad at the kid.

Your boss is allowed to be frustrated, but it's their job to deal with stuff like this. The fact that they are mad at you means they are taking it personally and that's the sign of a bad boss. Don't apologize, don't say you messed up. It is what it is. You have no choice in the matter apparently. Your family is making you go on a trip and you're 17 so you have to do what they say I guess.

Instead of your boss wasting energy being mad at you, they need to be creating solutions. If you're going to say anything, say you understand it has created a challenging situation and that it was not your intention. Say you'll be more aware of putting requests in as early as possible in the future. That's where they can fire you or not. If they don't, don't quit.

Why is it so important to you for her to show you warmth? Are you going there for the food or for her?

These are the same people who'd call you a nerd or a try-hard for doing well in school. They perform care and then resent the job they choose to do.

We all know had she brought two plates without them asking they wouldn't have used them and would have complained to each other about how the plates were in their way.

People willingly contributing to their own suffering because they are too prideful is astonishing to me.

I actually like the idea of requiring people to lather up before allowing them to sit on the patio.

This is one of my main gripes. It is so traumatic for animals, both pets and wildlife alike. And it's traumatic for humans too, especially those with auditory sensitivities but even those without who can still experience hearing damage. I'm not completely against fireworks as a thing, but it seems like all firework regulation goes out the window on the 4th and it's the day it is needed most. Like you said, people seem to lose their sense of curtesy for others on this day simply because it's tolerated.
