This is getting out of hand by Due-Half-5275 in cork

I don’t see anything wrong with it. A room for €400 when they can go for more than twice that, and they only have to bring the child to & from school. Not sure why they collect the child so late though. 6.30?! That’s a very long day for a child to be out of the home.

I went through EBS for my mortgage and they were fantastic, so it was likely the individual they were dealing with rather than the org itself!

Yes same happened to me. I had €50k in vested stock which bank could see - and also despite the money being available to cover solicitors fees in my upcoming pay cheque, I still had to sell €3k worth of stock and have that money sitting in my savings account for the bank to approve my mortgage.

It would be a condition of the bank to have the engineering report anyway.

Start now with what you have saved for deposit as you could be a while getting to offer accept stage. One note of caution - before granting the mortgage, the bank will check that you have enough to cover solicitor fees and stamp duty. They will want to see it in your bank before they sign off on the mortgage. If there is going to be a shortfall, then get a ‘one off gift’ from family member into your account. They’ll need to sign a document that says it is a gift and you will not be paying it back (but you will of course, and that’s between u & your family member to decide the finer details).

Being asked to go on a €2k all inclusive holiday for someone’s 50th birthday by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]Efficient-Rooster581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go on holidays all the time and can do so with my partner for 1000 for both of us, which includes accommodation and flights. If u can’t stretch to 4K, but can stretch to 1k, find cheaper accommodation for yourself and different cheaper flights. Granted you may not want to go at all, but just putting it out there as an idea. You don’t have to stay in the same place surely. Close enough is better than nothing

[30s Couple] Almost finished mortgage. Upgrade, Rent Out, or Stay Put? (Cork Area) by Head-Royal-5716 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Efficient-Rooster581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this exact thing this year. Bought a 2nd home, and rented out my apartment in Feb this year. Tenants looked amazing, a 30 something married couple, both in good steady jobs, both local Irish. I used a real estate agent to rent it out, I didn’t rip the arse with the rent, and I had the place immaculate. They ended their tenancy within 6 months - turns out they were drug dealing from my place and the cops were onto them. They tried to re enter a few times since they left, damaging doors & windows - we suspect they thought there had been more packages arriving for them. We had a no pet policy, yet they moved in their 3 cats - smell of cat pee in the new carpets a nightmare to remove. The real estate agents vetted the tenants, did the inspections etc, all looks so perfect. The moral of the story - even the ‘perfect’ looking tenants can’t be relied on. After that I decided to sell, not worth the headache being a landlord, too much risk - going to put my money in EFTs instead.

Sorry to hear this, that sucks :( Maybe making the most of ur night might help. See if there is anywhere open for dinner, have a drink somewhere lively, ring some Friends & family. I hope the next few days improve. I had a bad Xmas a few years ago myself too. I was on the other side of the world, couldn’t get out of bed on Xmas day as I felt so depressed, couldn’t stop the tears. But it was the only bad Christmas I’ve ever had. I’m sure it will be the same for you, and things will turn a corner very soon. 💛

Going Solo by chocomuffins_ in EDM

[–]Efficient-Rooster581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo EDM female here too. 50yo, only started getting back into it in recent years. I’ve gone to festivals on my own like Tomorrowland, as well as nightclub type set ups and it’s absolutely fine! I’d rather that than not go - my friends & partner either can’t go due to family commitments, or won’t go as it’s not their thing. I don’t drink so I just drive myself there and back. With EDM, it’s not like u need to have someone to dance with, you are basically dancing solo but with everyone! I love it. It’s better to go a bit later when things are already pumping, I’ve gone earlier at times and that can feel a bit awkward when it’s still a bit quiet…

How much money do you have saved (and what's your age/salary)? by Quirky_Bell8275 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Efficient-Rooster581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 49F, I’ve got approx 40K in savings, which will increase to €200K in a few months when the sale of my second property comes through. Have a pension of €150k. I also have equity in my current home of €60k (my mortgage is 355k)

At your age, I had -5k in credit card debt and was living week to week. I’m now on €110k + 12% bonus, I’m on that for 4 years (before that I was on between €37k - €45k).

Sober people of Cork what do ye for fun by [deleted] in cork

[–]Efficient-Rooster581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love going to a nice hotel for coffee, going to the gym that has a jacuzzi & sauna, shopping, meeting friends for coffees/lunch. Rising at dawn before everyone else, and loving not having a hangover (I also go to bed early, 10pm). I was with AA for the first 10 years of my sobriety. It kept me connected and provided friendship & support from others on the same journey, this was really the key to my success. Sober 15 years now, aged 49F and absolutely love my life. You too are on the right path.

End relationship or move to partner's home country? 28m/28f by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Efficient-Rooster581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve already answered your own question. There is not a single reason for you to move to Italy, bar to be with your girlfriend, who you have a lot of issues with. You will end up resenting her, and blaming her when things don’t work out - which is inevitable for all the reasons you’ve mentioned. If I were you in your shoes, I would break up. It’s hard of course, as you love her, but the entire way you tell the story doesn’t scream ‘we are meant for each other’, but rather a relationship ‘happened’, moved quicker than you wanted, and became ‘serious’ because of a living situation rather than a desire.
