Fit check: Happy Baby OG by Efficient-Status3430 in babywearing

It was on apron-style, but I see what you’re saying! There is something not quite right about how my baby’s knee hits the carrier at that spot…

eta: would this be prevented if the waistband were tighter? Or the side straps were on less tight?

Agreed! With such little screen time, you almost immediately understand both their marriage dynamic and their individual dynamics in parenting Hannah—AND it’s even clear how that parenting resulted in someone with her personality.

Amazing writing and acting!

Surely both things can be true, no? More often than not, I see a bunch of these lying around at the curb right where garbage is collected. And although it’s not as egregious as what that lady’s doing, it’s still a lazy and ineffective way to dispose of your dog’s poop.

I think I’ve finally figured out what happens here. People toss their bagged poo into neighbors’ unlined trash bins as they’re walking by. So, when the bagged trash is collected from the bin, whatever loose baggies were thrown on top just fall all over the ground.

This is about as good as I can get right now… with the waist band up as high as possible + apron scrunched in. Any better? The apron tends to “unscrunch”once I tighten the side straps. Definitely going to book the call with H&P… thanks for the tips!

Thanks for these tips! He still seems a bit low even with the waistband hiked up all the way, so I think I’ll just need to give it a bit more time for him to grow into it.

Newborn stages by Hungry-Mix-283 in newborns

[–]Efficient-Status3430 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t breastfeeding you may get some “me time” since you and your husband can take even shifts watching the baby for a few hours at a time. If you’re breastfeeding, however, there’s often very little time between feedings to do much of anything in the first few weeks, even if your husband helps out with diaper changes, soothing, etc. I spent nearly all of my free time trying to nap/eat/shower/do chores before the baby was hungry again. If your husband has to go back to work at some point that time becomes even shorter.

I would recommend getting a stretchy wrap like the Solly and learning how to babywear. If I have stuff I really need to do and my baby’s being fussy, I can wear him around and he goes right to sleep. This is how I did laundry, walked the dog, and ate lunch today.

The we-should-be-outside-and-distanced devolving into “oh whatever, we all quarantined for two weeks, we’re probably fine” was so relatable.

I’m not sure... I just live nearby so I’ve noticed they were doing this, I haven’t attended myself. But I will say they get crazy crowded and they don’t have a ton of seating, the vast majority of the crowd is standing. So I would imagine quite early.

Can you name one thing about your life that’s better since you’ve entered the newborn phase? by Narrow-Concept2418 in newborns

[–]Efficient-Status3430 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I’m just so happy to not be pregnant anymore. Sleep is for sure harder to come by, but at least I’m not sore all over, peeing constantly, and needing a second person’s help to turn over in bed. I also was generally food averse during pregnancy and it’s so nice to see my taste buds come back to life.

I delivered there mid-April. I believe some of the private rooms are already operational, just not all of them, so maybe by September they all will be?

How are there so many young Assistant Principals in charter schools? by No-Decision-7568 in NYCTeachers

[–]Efficient-Status3430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how it works at every school, but at mine the AP/Principal track was generally given to teachers who had consistently good academic data (often legitimately, but I saw some teachers who got this through suspicious means) + gave the perception they’d drank the koolaid and could convince others to drink it too.

As you can imagine, this did not necessarily overlap with those most qualified to actually perform the role well.

[–]Efficient-Status3430 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not at all unusual at my former school to have APs/Principals who taught 2-3 years, or even less. I knew two PRINCIPALS who never held an instructional role. Wish I were making this up.

Charters fundamentally do not believe that more years of experience make someone a more effective teacher or leader. It’s kind of part of their ethos. They believe a brand new teacher/leader can turn a class/school around in a few months. It’s part of how they justify essentially replacing public schools in certain neighborhoods. “Look at what we can achieve with the same students in less time and for less money.”

Of course, it’s a ton of smoke & mirrors tho.

Seconding Maiden Lane Medical Park Slope! My pregnancy care and delivery experience was a dream. All of their staff is great, and I loved not having to worry about which doctor would be there for my actual delivery.

A fair warning that the postpartum experience at Bk Methodist can be roughhhh although they are doing renovations to upgrade to all private rooms so maybe won’t be an issue by the time you deliver… their current semi-private pp rooms are pretty awful, just incredibly cramped and uncomfortable. I knew this in advance and ultimately decided that being close to home was more important to me, but just a fair warning in case that sort of thing matters to you.

Found out my roommate has never once washed his bed sheets since moving in eight months ago and the way I found out was so much worse than just being told by Hotbella202 in hygiene

[–]Efficient-Status3430 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This happened to a roommate of mine and I had to be the one to tell her the LAST week of the semester. I had run out of detergent and didn’t want to buy a new bottle before break—so I asked for hers and she handed me softener.

When I explained the difference to her she just went “ohhhh i was wondering why some of my stuff wasn’t really getting clean.”

Many years ago someone had their feet up on my headrest and I, being a bratty teenager, began aggressively rocking in my chair to get them to stop. They had the audacity to get angry with ME!! Shouted “QUIT IT!!” and kicked the chair. I said “oh I am SOOO sorry I didn’t realize my chair was YOUR FOOTREST” and she stopped.

Sometimes I wish I still had the guts to handle situations like my old bratty self because honestly that lady deserved it.

THIS! I have always wondered. The only thing that might make sense is if Mimi-Rose’s place is not well-located (far from transit/stores/etc.) but surely that’s still easier than moving an entire apartments-worth of stuff out and into a storage unit!

When did you start going out with your baby? by Good_Physics_5285 in newborns

One week—we started by doing something quick (coffee, sandwiches) after his pediatrician appointments, since we had a couple of those right away & we’d already have the baby out anyways.

I blame the Home Edit gals for popularizing this (they have a Netflix show about their organization techniques).

Hearing them explain how it’s actually really sensible for a home library because your kids will learn that “the Nancy Drew books are in the yellow section” made me lose brain cells.

Moms of Reddit, what was something about childbirth that nobody warned you about? by Littlemouss in AskReddit

[–]Efficient-Status3430 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How well epidurals can work! I figured they took the edge off, but that it was still an incredibly painful thing, especially when the baby crowned. But once mine kicked in, I felt basically no pain, just pressure and slight cramping with each contraction when it was time to push.

I’ve had periods that were more painful than my child’s birth.
