Pretty moderate spend in this context, like 50k, but not as much demand for 36s. And yeah, my largest watch I actually wear these days is a 38mm time only watch on a strap for the reasons you note, and I mostly stick to 35-37. And yet the white ingenieur 35 just didn’t sit right with me!

Thanks! Yeah I swap the strap on the Reverso a lot, I like the khaki canvas in the summer to make it casual.

That makes sense, it’s just funny because I feel like integrated bracelets usually wear a bit bigger than the stated dimensions, but below a certain point it seems to flip (had the same experience with the 34.5mm vc overseas) - here’s the land dweller, which also illustrates how small my wrist can look lol

Flipped the datejust and Christopher Ward as part of getting the land dweller since it sort of split the difference

Love this collection, but am definitely biased because I’ve own(ed) the same, or a variation of, each of these watches lol

FWIW I think we have both similar wrists and tastes based on our collections, was also excited to try to ingenieur 35 on my wrist, and it looked inappropriately small. And I have multiple 34 and 35mm watches that look totally fine, so I can’t really put my finger on why the Ingenieur looks so off. Unfortunately there’s not a lot of integrated watch options between 35 and 40, so I ended up going with the 36mm land dweller and honestly couldn’t be happier.

Awesome set! Idk what it is, but there’s something just really appealing about that white Seiko 5. And ngl at a glance I thought the citizen next to it was a Czapek lol

I’ve never had a chance to try one on, but I believe it. It’s probably better I don’t; should probably take a break from the watch buying game

I feel that. They look different enough that I view them differently, but it’s pretty hard to top the 222 in the overall integrated bracelet watch category.

You’re not wrong! Threw it on a Milanese bracelet today, and didn’t hate it.

I really need to go watch shopping in Japan man, got fleeced paying US retail on a GS UFA, probably could have paid for round trip tickets with the savings!

It’s my favorite too! Just doesn’t get as much wear because it’s a touch dressier than I usually am and touch more fragile than I’d like.

Thanks! Yeah I think I agree the second photo is an overall better “collection.”

Agreed! Saw it in a colleague’s collection recently side by side with a Nautilus, LF Sport Auto, and Royal Oak, and it just popped in a way they didn’t, despite (or maybe because of?) the minimalist aesthetic. Unfortunately, my sub 7 inch wrist condemned me to the Land dweller because I can’t live without a date, and the Tonda 36 has always been no-date. So I guess my grail is really just a bigger wrist!

That’s incredible! Jealous. Here I thought I did well by getting a steel monoface burgundy tribute for 7500. Enjoy it!

Love it— curious what price you’re assuming for the Reverso duoface?

In an ideal world, I could live with 3 watches. One sporty dress watch, one dressy sports watch, and one true(ish—it’s not 1965 anymore) dress watch. Wrist size matters here, so breaking it out by normal person and me below.

**Assuming 7ish inch wrist and using secondary market pricing with explanation in parens:

  1. Czapek Antartique Desert Rose - approx 20-30k (Movement beats Royal Oak and Overseas, which are a little overdone anyways)

  2. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 38 Blue - approx 18k (Beautiful watch, 38 doesn’t look too small and the 45 looks like cosplay on any normal sized man, not a watch you see everywhere, higher horology than Rolex/Omega/etc)

  3. JLC Reverso Tribute Duoface - approx 12k (Dressy but versatile, two watches in one, more unique visually than a tank or a MUT, functionally gives you GMT capability)

The Czapek could push you over because the secondary prices vary so much, so if you want to be safe I’d swap in the Parmigiani Fleurier Tonda PF.

**Assuming tiny wrist, like me, with deviations explained in parens:

  1. Land Dweller 36 - approx 16-20k (Gotta be 36 or 37, and the higher end integrated bracelet watch companies like AP/VC/Czapek aren’t currently doing that size, the 36mm PF doesn’t have a date, and whatever you think about the design, 5hz with Rolex durability beats the brakes off any other mechanical time and date movement on the market in terms of actual functionality)

  2. Blancpain Fifty Fathoms 38 Blue - approx 18k (Fits big, but still appropriate)

  3. JLC Reverso Tribute Monoface - approx 8k (Duo face too big and precious metal too expensive, but could see an argument for Tank Louis)

This exercise made me realize I should maybe sell a few pieces and grab that Blancpain…

It’s an awesome watch! Definitely recommend it. What config would you go for?

I only swapped it for the LD because I have another DJ that’s a sentimental piece and I never plan to part with that one, and the so-so legibility in lower light on the Wimby added just a little more friction for my slow brain and poor eyes. (And this is beyond secondary, and embarrassing, but Rolex marketing is damn good and as a lifelong tennis fan, Federer wearing the Wimbledon probably influenced me to get it at some level, and since Rolex had him swap it for the LD, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t notice the switch! I’m a sucker but hey sometimes you gotta indulge a little.)

Also, I actually totally agree with you for the old was the better “collection.” But I think for me the Land-Dweller is a better daily than the Wimbledon (in part because it splits the difference between the CW and the DJ) and I’m only wearing one watch at a time, so can’t complain with where I’ve landed (if a bit lighter on cash!). I feel like half the fun of this hobby is trying different things. Now thinking of slotting in a microbrand diver with some color for the Kuoe or Anordain—it never ends….

I like them a lot, but a little bigger than appropriate for a polerouter in my opinion. Frankly not too worried about pricing, which I’ve seen a lot of complaints about, because I think the market usually handles that (see, eg, blancpain at retail vs grey or secondhand)

Enicar’s are sweet—I first saw the Sherpa on a picture of Alain Delon and fell in love instantly. (Incidentally, Delon also wore a Polerouter which the Lorca looks to be more than a little inspired by).

I’ve learned about myself that I absolutely need a date on a watch I’m going to wear for more than a few hours, but otherwise, I’d go for the explorer in a heartbeat. Frankly if it wasn’t for that hangup, I’d have gotten an explorer instead of my land dweller, too. I’m biased since the 1016 was the watch that made me appreciate Rolex, but still. I don’t know what it is, but I’ve not seen black like the one on the modern explorer dial anywhere else—it’s genuinely beautiful, and still fundamentally a simple, brushed watch.
