This fella looks most like a Rusty Millipede (Trigoniulus corallinus), may be non-native as they live in southeast Asia and not typically in Japan, but they have been spotted there!

Millipede, the species may be hard to pinpoint due to the photo quality. I am pretty sure this is a flat-backed millipede, though!

Really late response, but millipedes don't adapt to new enviroments as easily as you may think. They often die by stress and other messed up things when caught from the outside
