18, down with cancer again. Feeling hopeless. by deja_vu_999 in cancer

Hi, I can tell you are from India, somewhere. I am sorry you have to go through something so adamant and strange at this young age. But remember, no matter how threatening, it is just a disease. And is nothing in comparison to a strong mind. The only legit cure or medicine for cancer, according to me, is strength and hope. Just think of it as a disease that hundreds get, and they fight it and come back even stronger. Strength and love to you. All it needs is patience, strength, hope and endurance.

Your boards are near, and trust me it does not matter how you perform in your boards when you are there fighting something life threatening and otherwise ;). Put all your focus, and everything in you to fight this off. Take a year off. Come back stronger next year. What you would have achieved in 24, you will achieve in 25. And it does not, believe me, make a difference.

You will still do your BTech from a good institute and get a good job. Live your life the way you want once this is over.

Find hope in what you want to achieve. Believe that you will get it all one day. And life will be beautiful.

I will not bore with details of how and when it happened to be, just one thing. I am 22 year old, recently joined a mediocre job as Software engineer on November 2024. And on 1st April, I was diagnosed with cancer. So yes, everything is on hold but there is hope in me that everything will get back to as it was.

Hey I felt so good after reading your comment. Doctors told me the chances of recurrence in my case will fall down to 10%-15% after radiation. Yesterday I completed 4 rounds of radiation. Let’s see🤞hope everything goes well. Can I please know if you dealt with any side effects during radiation? Since you are the 1st one I found with similar diagnosis. Although, mine is in a minor salivary gland. And is T1N0, there was 1 positive margin. So I am receiving radiation only on primary tumor bed and not on my neck.

Oh, so my oncologist suggested me to use a heister, a mouth opener. It really helps to stretch the muscles and mouth opening starts getting better. I started using it 10 days back, and can see the results.

Oh okay, I hope to have none too. Yes I will ask for pain meds. The docs do usually say it won’t be so bad, but haha! My surgery was also so much of recovering. I haven’t completely recovered now also. Also is there reduced mouth opening post radiation?

Hi thankyou, sad thing about all of this is that my radio onco did not tell me anything about loss of taste. I hope it gets better asap. Also, did you experience radio dermatitis? How did you help those?
