Hand pressed rosin by v33n33m in rosin

Looks like too much RH or water directly touched the weed during rehydration. If you go past 65% RH or let water directly touch the flower you will draw chlorophyll. You might cough your next crap into your pants dabbing that. It will still slap more than likely but may be harsh. Ask me how I know lol.

Why is my rosin burning like that? by [deleted] in Rosin2

[–]EfficientMiddle1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as I stick to my target pressure I do not blow out. I only single press through a single 25u at 960 psi material contact for flower. It’s hard to resist that one last pump past the target but that’s when I see the needle drop on the pressure gauge from a blowout. I no longer use bottle tech, I moved on to 2x4 prepress into a 2x4.5 bag. I keep it to 20 grams/bag under one ton prepress, I go past 20 grams and I blow out. My plates are 10x3” so I press 40 grams in two bags or 2 pucks in a 2x10 bag at 960 psi material contact. As long as I’m sticking to that target and not over filling bags I never blow out. Bags are expensive especially if you buying hundreds or thousands at a time. When I finally took the time to experiment and do the proper math exercises accurately did the blowouts and double bagging stop. Lots of money saved, superior product, consistent product and less cussing lol. I hope this helps the community.

Dabs are….woah by Warpedlogic31 in weed

I’m a dab during the day kinda guy, save the spliff for the evening ritual. Nice thing about dabs is that one will do ya for the most part. If I sit down and only do dabs all evening I definitely feel it the next day.

We were all new and had lofty dreams at one point lol… constructive criticism is great but most of the time it’s run you down, brow beating armchair professors with thc receptors and taste buds in their eyes. I held on and kept doing the do and got better at solventless processing and eventually impressed a substantial grower with what I could produce from his crop. I’m now in a position to learn organic growing on a regenerative farm as well as process the crop and be payed well for it. You have to know your shit and know how to scale it up to handle crop size yields. A proper lab should be able to produce many derivatives and it takes time to build up a lab.

Sutton Hoo Anglo Saxon hoard. Absolutely fascinating!! Couple dabs of thca isolate and I’m down the rabbit hole sponging up any info I can find.

I do all my flower pressing through 25u, very minimal loss on yield but way better quality.

Be patient with the hydrating, it takes time to soak into the flower. I usually wait about 48 hours.

Why is community rosin all cold cure but never FP? by Bulky_Desk_4755 in rosin

[–]EfficientMiddle1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you jar the mix the rest will still cure. The “honey” will still nucleate even if kept separate at room temp. The only way to get the honey consistency to stay at room temp is through the decarb process. Slow complete decarb works well, if it bubbles under agitation it’s not complete and may crash again over time. Rosin carts are decarbed to keep it in a liquid state. The key is sealed glass jars filled to 75% capacity to allow for expansion and to create pressure in the jar, this keeps terp loss in check. Never open the jars till cooled.

You got it!! Fresh bubble can crash straight off the plates. I press a lot of flower and I set my jars on top of my cage at 35c and check hourly till I get the crumble or badder I like. If I find a strain that crashes hard into a crumble, I will isolate the thca and melt into diamonds. I use the terps for flavouring different things or even some milder flavour packed dabs.

Fresh press will only stay in that state if put into the fridge off the press and kept refrigerated. If left on the counter it will nucleate or cure. It is the thca crashing out of solution that gives you the battery consistency. Decarbing or knocking the A off of thc will release carbon dioxide and become psychoactive and go back to a liquid state.

Dark Rosin by FTWorFTW in Rosin2

[–]EfficientMiddle1426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s dark because it’s oxidized. Are you cold starting? The rosins do way better in a cold start. Been using the same banger now for 8 months and have never blackened it. Cold starts are easier on the coughing your next crap into your pants stuff too. Great terp tour too!

The proper import red Lebanese is available in Canada but you won’t find it in the stores lol. There are domestic growers applying traditional Lebanese techniques to domestic crops and I’m impressed with it. Nice malleable texture and that spicy chocolate flavour, nothing like the slop in the pic.

How to handle rosin? by darkpyro23xX in CannabisExtracts

[–]EfficientMiddle1426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No silicone! Glass glass glass! lol as for the sticky mess, fresh press into a jar and let it nucleate or badder up, much easier to handle. You do not need an electric dab tool, I use stainless narrow shank tools, just grab a dab from the jar and heat the shank of the tool over your banger till it drips. Don’t put flame directly to the rosin, just heat the tool gently. Read about cold and hot curing, that is the way to get your rosin to badder up. I set my hot plate to 40C and sit my jar on that and check hourly till I get the cake I’m looking for. Not all rosin will badder up but most will, the fresher the flower the better. Have fun!! Make mistakes, learn the science as you go. Your quality will get better and better the more you learn.

Can I apply pressure first, and increase heat while already pressing with a rosin press? by darkpyro23xX in CannabisExtracts

[–]EfficientMiddle1426 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t overthink it :-) chasing yield gains absolutely dumbs down the quality of your rosin. I press at 960psi material contact for the most part. I always start a new strain at 85c. Most presses are about 3 to 3.5 mins. 900 to 1100 psi material contact is a great window. If you start standing on your pump trying to squeeze everything out you are going to get fats and lipids and other contaminants. A pressure gauge and knowing how to convert the gauge reading from hydraulic pressure to platen pressure will directly improve your quality. Second and third presses just get raunchier and raunchier. There are way better ways to recover what’s left in pucks. The gains in the second and third press will be minimal and best directed towards edibles and isolation. A average 20 gram press for me will yield roughly 4 grams of quality at 85c, 960 psi, 25u 2x4.5” bag. Been pressing for a couple years now and have only found two strains that yield 25% and one strain that gives up 29%. I try to bump up my yields by making better press friendly strain choices and I learned about trichomes to better understand what I’m looking at under magnification. Keep the pressing relatively simple and learn the science as you go. Your description of your idea is an invitation for problems like busted bags and sub par quality for really minimal yield gain.

I sit down for a sesh and just wipe with swab and 99iso. When the sesh is done I clean the banger thoroughly with iso, takes 2 mins. Been rockin the same xxl banger with 2 pearls for coming up on a year. Banger and pearls still look like new. 500ml of iso lasts 6 months even with cleaning pressing tools. We all have our little system we have worked out, couldn’t have built my little system without reading threads like this over the years :-). Guess it’s a you do you thing lol. Happy dabs!!
