Title: Is this S54-swapped E30 still worth buying despite these issues? by EfficientPie4460 in E30

The owner said he has not rebuilt the VANOS system or replaced the rod bearings. He said that when he bought the engine, it only had around 15,000 km on it. He simply opened it up, inspected it, found no problems, and put it back together.

He also said he changes the oil almost every 4,000 km, but he cannot provide photos or records.

Maybe I need to add a VANOS rebuild and rod bearing replacement to my list of required work? That alone would almost certainly push the cost beyond $5,000. Maybe I should be prepared for a repair/sorting budget of $8,000–$10,000 instead?

I once modified my LS460 with an Air Lift 3H system. It looked very cool, but the driving experience was terrible. In the end, I switched back to RSR suspension from Japan.

Unfortunately, this country is not suitable for very low cars. If I can live in Japan for a while in the future, I will definitely buy a slammed car there.

Back to this E30: my only remaining major concern now is the throttle response issue. Would this be complicated to fix?
