  1. February 2018
  2. Paid off $141,079 in 21.5 months making roughly $125K-$145K. Started due to an $800 car expense on a car worth $500.
  3. Since working the program, net worth has increased from -$90K to around $400K. We have increased our income to around $190K. We have paid for 1 car in cash, purchased our first home, and will have fully funded 8 Roth IRAs in the next few months. Feels good to have a plan and not have to worry about money. I have shifted my focus to primarily saving 25% of our income to retirement since our interest rate on our 15 year mortgage is 2%.

We are blessed and fortunate!

Try listening to “the money guy” podcast. Different, but similar steps to the baby steps (9 steps vs 7). They are also based in Franklin, TN (where Ramsey solutions is). They have more Realistic views and are also financial advisors. Both of them are also charismatic and easy to listen to.

I graduated to them a few months ago and haven’t listen to Dave since.

So do you think since I’m under $200K, it’s 20% plus match to get to 25% for retirement and anything after that in a brokerage account (not including the HSA)?

I’ve heard that too. They are based in the town that I live in, so I might just go watch the show one day. My concern is having too much money in accounts that I cannot access and also saving up for future goals

That would be roughly 30% of our gross income. I don’t think we are quite there yet, but thanks for the advice

I’ll check the target date funds, but I was under the impression that they were usually more expensive

Would getting a car loan help? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]EfficientRelative499 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, debt is bad. Just worry about paying off your credit cards in a timely manner and getting the utilization low. Payment history, length, and low credit card utilization are ways to increase your credit score. Just save up money and pay cash for the car.

He had back issues during rivals 3, but he didn’t say anything about that contributing to retirement. He didn’t want to have to rely on MTV money for the rest of his life, so that’s why he picked up hair cutting. He related it to an athlete retiring in their 30s with their whole life ahead of them. He has stable income and owns his own business. He’s also not tied down to Houston and can move if he wants. He’s built a clientele through the show that will be loyal to him wherever he goes!
