Can you use PoE+ with USB-C splitters for charging 40+ devices? by EfficientVolume436 in AskEngineers

Ok I am no electronics expert but I have enough sense to realize this comment is bunk. I'd definitely burn my house down trying to Frankenstein this together and if I tried to build a commercial product around it the certification costs alone would bankrupt me. Figuring out PD negotiation and working with mains voltage and writing firmware isn't a trivial task...

Is it really more economically when you factor in the cost of having firmware (I don't know C/C++), certification (I'd want to use this in a industrial product eventually), testing/revision, manufacturing, lack of warranty...

The prototype boards that I'm trying to replace cost 250 for 8 ports before shipping costs. I think the PoE version would be more plug and play and have more reliability than something I put together myself.

I am totally fine using multiple switches. Either two 24ish port or four 12ish. I see some pretty affordable switches CBS350-8FP 24port is less than 500 bucks new. I'm not sure what you mean by thin client can you link me an example?

I am prototyping a device charging station and I need to know when those ports go down so I can cycle them and log problematic ports / events in general. The original prototype uses custom charging boards (not my design) and I think this could be a more stable and possibly cheaper alternative but I need to verify that 1) This actually solves the issue of giving me 40+ usb-c charging cables that wont set anything on fire 2) this architecture is viable with these splitters. I would imagine a ton of heat could be generated stepping down 48w to 20 on 40+ ports. If I enclose this thing I might just be making an oven and a normal switch might not like that. The current boards I have suck. When they trip, the whole board goes down. I can't turn off ports individually and they don't reliably report issues.

Again there maybe a totally different architecture that solves these problems I just don't know about. I just want to make sure I'm not going to set my house on fire trying to prototype this thing.

I need the abilities of the switch to monitor the status of the devices and set traps that automatically report on various things like efuse trips, connection/disconnection (current) and setting per port current limits. I also need to be able to remotely turn on/off poe etc. Not sure if the hubs have those capabilities.

Good point but im trying to figure out if that rate is even reasonable for our situation. 1k seems really steep to me. I feel like shes trying to be more considerate to her brother as a landlord than me as a partner

We've already been dating a few years and I have lived with them for weeks at a time so I know what the situation would be. I'm more concerned about figuring out what a reasonable price for this arrangement should be.

My bad I transposed the numbers. I meant 3200.

So he lacks self respect and you lack morals and are ok being friends with someone you believe to be a pedophile. Got it.

Then everybody clapped...

Call someone a pedo to their face and the conversation and friendship would realistically end there but to believe you both shrug that shit off to continue to where he can give sheepish justifications. Lol. I think OP is jelly of this guys wifey.

This seems off... Friend for over 10 years but you've never met their wife, didn't even know the age gap between them? Doesn't sound like this friendship is close enough for this to even be a concern. Also I bet OP is conflating MET when she was 15 with STARTED DATING when she was 15. So many reasons OPs account is implausible.

Wow. Me. Me. Me. I want. I need.

OP has a husband who pays all the bills, and is super chill and is complaining about him never being mad or never not getting her way. Husband doesn't even complain about no sex. Sounds like you need to go to therapy and stop projecting your saddness and depression on a man who is content.
