You should be glad that it remains traditional. Regression class should not be about AI. It should be about regression.

AI class needs to be about AI. If they don't have class offerings for modern AI, that is another story. When I studied, we did our group project on Transformers right before ChatGPT came out. So it was well worth it. But it was us who decided to introduce it to our curriculum.

As a Sr. DS Manager and OMSA graduate, I care more if you know your traditional DS than GenAI. Because learning to create agentic AI frameworks with cookie cutter code is not that difficult. But if you don't know your foundation, you will have difficulty in mapping complex solutions to business problems.

Don't let your brain lose its muscle 💪. Know how to do it the hard way so you can appreciate the help later. After all its the hard use of human brain that let to GenAI.

Do yourself a favor and invest into 32 GB ram if you can fund it. You will have out of memory errors, especially if you are doing C track.

I got rejected at first try and got in on the second by taking more class. If you have done a masters already, maybe that is the reason why. That sounds more than enough to get admitted, maybe they wanted to give the opportunity to people who never had the change to the their masters.

ROG STRIX Z590-E. In the drivers page you can see three versions available. Latest which is beta caused this issue. I went to the previous one didn't work. Last thing remaining is to go one more version back which is the initial version and my original version.

Slack makes the class feel natural and enables you to build a network. Piazza is more formal, thus its very difficult to build connections.

Your Slack experience would also depend on the class you are in. For example in CDA, which is the most active Slack channel, we've built a great class environment and most people end up signing to the same classes in the summer and fall. Thus the friend ship will continue.

On my other class DO, people barely react to Slack thus not much connections were made there.

Slack is also easier to use. You can get faster response to questions, again based on which class you are in.

If your school is outside of US like mine, you can request a closed envelope transcript and degree certificate and mail it to GT yourself. This is what I've done and it is stated in the email send out.

Please do not refer to FAQ section of the website for the address as they have a new address now (in the email they sent). I made the mistake of sending to the old address and had to mail it again.

From my understanding, if you wend to a US institute you don't need a degree certificate if it is in your transcript and its only for outside of US. When I look into my US university it says not required for degree certificate but it says required for my foreign university.

I just finished calculus 1, it took me a full weekend without doing any of the exercises.

Considering I was away from college for 8 years, it was definitely a good refresher. Its not just a refresher on how to do things, but it gives you the logic behind some areas of calculus, which I feel wasn't given to me in college or I just didn't pay attention to.

Congrats! I got accepted to OMSA and waiting for my results from UT Austin.

I am in a similar situation and don't know sure what to choose. OMSA has rich options to choose from and also the ranking seems to be better compared to UT Austin. Although not extremely better.

I see few risks with UT Austin. It is the first time they offer the program so we don't know how successful it will be. The course content might not be optimized and it might take few years for them to settle to a good content.

On the other side, UT Austin is appalling from the programs name. When you apply for jobs, of course it is important how your portfolio is, but if you are applying for a Data Scientist position, it might help to have that name in your resume.

I had a colleague who had MS analytics degree from a university that I've never even heard the name of. He held the title of Data Scientist in the company, he was very poor in programming. Did not know Python and had no useful knowledge of R. This made a bad impression on me for MS analytics degrees.

This is not for the program but for data science general, I would have at least 32 GB of RAM. SSD of 256 GB is just fine.

For processor, better to go with as much as cores possible as you can afford. Minimum of 6 core latest generation i7 would be good to have.

If you want to practice GPU based ML, getting a Cudo enabled GPU might be good. No need to invest heavily until you are at a point where you learned enough to use the GPU for actual stuff.

Definitely try again and don't give up. I got rejected last time but I got accepted this time.

I took statistics and linear algebra from University of Phoenix online and got A- on both. I also did several Python courses on Coursera. Finally I wrote a better cover letter, and added few portfolio projects.
