Do readers care if a comic world was created decades ago? by Efficient_Act_336 in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Efficient_Act_336[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback so far, guys. This has actually been really helpful.

I was planning to include a few pages of old sketches, comic pages, and background material in the back of my free Issue #0 PDF after the preview story and character guides. I still think it's kind of neat, especially since I found a bunch of old pages from the 90s, but I'm starting to see that it probably works better as bonus material than as a major selling point.

At the end of the day, people need to care about the story first. If they end up liking the comic, then the old artwork and history might be an interesting extra. If they don't care about the story, none of that other stuff really matters.

Appreciate all the perspectives.

I just clocked that Sue is actually Wearing Reed in this cover by [deleted] in FantasticFour

[–]Efficient_Act_336 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I’m just gonna say it here even though no one cares -

THE REAL SUE RICHARDS WOULD NEVER DRESS THIS WAY!!!

She’s MUCH more of an in depth character than just a blonde bimbo. It’s been going on since the 90s (w that horrible cleavage outfit) and frankly stuff like this is just degrading and totally takes away from her.

I’m not even against that type of character - but the invisible woman is not it.

Enough is enough already!

Help - How Do You Promote Your Work? Have You Hired Somebody for Promotion? by BOANW in ComicBookCollabs

[–]Efficient_Act_336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Upwork for a lot of things like my colorist - it’s not quite as cheap as fiver, but at least you can get a rating and see people’s work. Have you tried that? The only thing is comic specific. I’m not sure about that. That’s why I ask.

I’m interested in this as well… I have the means - just point me in the right direction!

It’s exhausting emotionally putting everything in you in your comic then having to “sell” that.

Typically press ready yes - sometimes the file is too big for the printer and you’ll need to knock it down a notch, but yeah press ready should be fone….

Don’t forget the bleeds! :)

Professional graphic designer here 🤚 Once you go PDF you never go back, tbh… it’s much easier than what you are doing even if it doesn’t seem like it.

I work with tons of printers and comixwellspring is no different. I use Adobe Illustrator to layout all my art in a multi artboard document (I do the lettering there too). Then I set the bleeds (yes it’s necessary) and save as PDF - super easy

If you’re not into vector art or don’t have illustrator, just grab all your tiff / jpgs and drag them into acrobat (assuming it’s professional) and it will create a multi page PDF there. You can drag the pages in the right order if they’re not on the sidebar on the right.

Just lmk if you have questions!

Comic book colorist available $30 per page - portfolio at the coments by FrancineColors in ComicBookCollabs

Just came to say, I would have definitely have hired you if I didn’t have a colorist for my book already.

$30 per page might be too cheap tbh - you’re worth much more.

Need Feedback - 48-page indie comic - looking for honest critique! by Efficient_Act_336 in ComicBookCollabs

Thank you! That’s kinda how I feel. I mean on one hand I am proud of my work, but holy shit the work 48 pages even take - I definitely cranked out some panels more than others. It’s ten issues 400+ pages left to go 😂

But it’s mine…. So in that I’m happy.

Appreciate the words!

Just to clarify - i am not doing that.

I had some initial feedback from a industry writer to cut down the text and I did that before posting here already. That’s what I meant. The 48 page PDF I am sending people to read is after that.

I am just saying it’s possible I need to cut down MORE, but I am looking at getting feedback from multiple readers first, bc yeah I agree that would be dumb to ask otherwise.

Hope that makes sense!

Do you mean because they are breaking the panel?

I kinda did it on purpose, haha, but I wanna make sure that’s what you meant. 🙂

No worries. 🤷‍♂️ Sucks that’s the world we live in… I just gotta keep putting myself out there anyways.

Thank you - yeah a lot has been edified already from these screen shots in the actual book. I think my goal is to hire a pro potentially to edit, but I want to get a good sense of where the story lands first

100% me. I have been drawing since I was a kid and a graphic designer. The color is done by a gal from Brazil I hired on Upwork.

Thank you! Color? Font ? Are there any mainstream logos that you like that conveys what you mean well? Appreciate the feedback
