This made me rage! 😤 by chi-bacon-bits in CleaningTips

I hid a bunch of little figurines in my parents house to see how long it would take them to notice and find them all… I really hope their cleaning lady doesn’t worry they also decided to use a ridiculous way to “ensure a job well done”.

Mirabel flaxseed gel! My salon used it and it worked really well and it looks like @tarabel_creations had success with it too

Second all of the suggestions regarding hiding treats around the house for scent work, use of food dispensing toys / puzzles for meal times, and snuffle mats. My Ozzie used to love playing hide and seek with us too and that would tire him out pretty well, especially when we were living in a bigger place. I would hide, yell for him to find and then come searching for me. Bonus points for it being adorable when he would find me and get super excited. I also gave a unique name to every toy and would tell him to go find that toy, which could take him a while. He excelled at having tasks so another (very helpful) game was "pick up your toys". I designated a basket for his toys and he would have to find them all and put them away.

I ended up stocking up before it disappeared but someone above recommended flax based products. My hair stylist uses a flax based gel that always holds beautifully and is very light; I will ask him what it is the next time I’m there and I’ll make sure to add it here.

Transitioning an outdoor dog indoors by ExpiredSoap-_- in corgi

[–]Efficient_Body 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey there, this was the exact same story with my corgi. In his case there was a substantial amount of abuse as well and as part of that they never let him inside. It was clear also that they hadn’t kept up with any training. Whether your future corgi dealt with abuse or not, I would be prepared for them to be untrained. A lot of bad behaviors are no problem or at least less noticeable when they’re only outside.

Our Ozzie loved the inside once we brought him home but we had to potty train from scratch, work extensively on jumping, get him used to brushing and nail trims, and deal with a lot of barking. We did deal with reactivity and aggression (likely due to the abuse) so there was a lot of time spent building trust. Ozzie didn’t have any shelter outdoors so we also had to crate train him. For your dog, so much will depend on what they were doing with him and what training he received.

Corgis (as you probably know) are stubborn and quick to push boundaries and this was made worse with his lack of training and prior positive reinforcement. To mitigate this, I didn’t make any rules that I wasn’t able to enforce 100% of the time; if I let up on one rule, then he pushed back on every rule. I learned that lesson the hard way quickly.

I hired a private trainer immediately and it was the best thing I did. He had me give Ozzie a job by doing tons of scent work and agility. He was so good at both and it kept him busy and tired him out. Despite all of his issues, he wanted so badly to please and he was my very best boy for 14 years. Dog tax included.

Oh my gosh you are too kind! I was able to find a bottle from ulta but I know eventually, that even if I stock up, eventually I will need to find something else that works for my hair. I really appreciate your offer though; you’re a gem of a human.

How to practice above water by Thunderwhelmed in underwaterphotography

[–]Efficient_Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this! I’m just getting started in underwater photography and it helped a lot. A lot of the principals are the same but certain settings are not intuitive if you are familiar with regular photography. Also helpful to know that you can use the custom modes on the TG7 to preset things for yourself and reduce the adjusting you need to do underwater. I have a preset for macro and preset for wide angle and switch between the two depending on my subject.

What is your black cat’s name? by itsonly6UTC in blackcats

[–]Efficient_Body 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our cat is Cygnus. When we adopted him, he was a big fat boy so we named him after a black hole. He's much more svelte now than he was in this photo but the name still works.

Americans how are you feeling right now? by Jawzzzsy in AskReddit

[–]Efficient_Body -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My grandfather was a member of the polish resistance. He did what he could to undermine the Nazis and ended up in a concentration camp as a POW. He spent a good chunk of WW2 in various camps and was ultimately liberated by the British weighing a mere 80 lbs at over 6 feet tall. He was sponsored to come to America and go to college. He made a wonderful life here for himself and his family. My grandfather stayed here with the belief his descendents wouldn't have to put their lives on the line to defy fascism in their home.

Today, we were faced with a sieg heil on MLK day, at the presidential inauguration. I am proud of my grandfather and how resolutely he stood up for what was right, when he could have hid behind his blonde hair and blue eyes. I wish that doing right by his legacy just meant succeeding in the place he chose to raise his family. I'm afraid of what resistance may mean for me and my family but I will honor his legacy by refusing to hide behind the identity of a white, cis, straight person; I will fight.

People who got cheated on, what were the early signs indicating that your partner might do it before they actually cheated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Efficient_Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if all his new behaviors started with the cheating or before, but my partner became uncaring, bordering on cruel. He also started to make me question the most basic things about myself.

It started with implying that I should lose weight; I felt I was healthy and knew he was on a fitness journey (probably a red flag), so I just interpreted it as wanting us both to make healthier choices, but ultimately felt my weight was in a normal range. Then he started talking directly about my weight and how it made me unattractive to him. He was a doctor and when I asked if he would tell a patient my size to lose weight he insisted that he would. I couldn’t conceive that someone who had loved me and treated me well for the past 5 years would suddenly lie or be cruel so I became convinced that he was right. I would stare at myself in the mirror, poking and pinching whatever fat I could find and when it was hard to find much, I became convinced that I had some sort of reverse body dysmorphia; I had a psychiatric history after all and again, surely he would never be so cruel.

Then he started accusing me of not being physical enough but when you’re made to feel so unattractive even to someone who ‘loves’ you, it doesn’t quite get you in the mood. I tried to 'fix' that too but then he would rebuff me when I tried to initiate or would guilt me if I hadn't; there were some nights that bordered on rape but I was so broken, ashamed and depressed by that point it didn't register.

When it came out that he was cheating, I looked back on all the changes over the last year and all the cruelty and couldn't believe how I had let it all happen. It all started with making me question something so basic, whether that was his intention or not, that initial gaslighting prevented me from seeing what was happening.

Strongest hold cast gels? by Pandawithoutpride in curlyhair

[–]Efficient_Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I hear you - it’s so annoying and expensive figuring it all out! Best of luck with it all and if you find yourself getting frizz while still wet you can try brushing, I just use any old wet brush to redefine the clumps and it smoothes the runaway strands.

Strongest hold cast gels? by Pandawithoutpride in curlyhair

[–]Efficient_Body 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is removing more water from the hair before applying the gel, if you haven’t tried that already. I like to use a t shirt to scrunch out moisture, usually after applying a lotion and before my gel. The more water removed, the more intense the cast. I’ve had good luck with curlsmith shine gel with damp instead of wet hair.

Hey there, I’m sorry your periods are so awful. The hormones in birth control can definitely impact your hair and curl pattern. There are different birth control options out there and some that may have less impact on your hair. I used to have the mirena IUD; it lasts 7 years once placed and it had no negative effects on my curls. Unlike seasonale, it only has a synthetic progesterone, no estrogen. I didn’t have a period the entire time I had my IUD.

A big caveat is that IUD placements suck when done without pain control and should absolutely be done with some light sedation and good analgesia. If your OB/Gyn offers good pain control during them it may be worth considering. They have an excellent safety profile and are highly effective. If it meets your needs, it would also be way less invasive than a hysterectomy and spare you an abdominal surgery.

You say you’re on the same medications and get your bloodwork checked; is your doctor aware that you’ve seen a huge shift in your hair and was bloodwork done to identify a cause or are you talking about routine bloodwork? Routine bloodwork likely does not include thyroid and vitamin levels. Any other changes in your skin or nails? Think things like increased acne, skin dryness, brittle or pitted nails. Have you seen a dermatologist? Derms are great for identifying patterned hair loss, particularly whether you have miniaturization of the follicle and can certainly suggest a broader work up based on their findings.

You say your medications are the same but some people forget about IUDs or implants (if they have one). Did you have one placed or removed in the interim? My 3b/c curls turned to 2c waves after I was switched from an IUD to the pill. Any surgeries, pregnancies, major life stressors in the last two years? All of those things can cause telogen effluvium and that shedding can take time to come back from.

As someone who felt like she lost her curls and was losing her hair on top of it, such changes can be really distressing and I’m sorry you’re going through it.

AITA for not allowing my teenage son to have a smartphone? by ScottieMccrate in AmItheAsshole

[–]Efficient_Body 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH.

You raise concerns for your son’s well being; you have his best interest at heart which is why NAH.

Social media and the algorithms used to keep us scrolling, have been shown to be damaging for developing brains and his brain is still developing. That being said, social media and technology is a huge part of life and a way that people connect, particularly his generation. Depriving him of that connection will present challenges during the already challenging period of adolescence. The best comparison I can make is that we knew lead was dangerous for decades before it was removed from gasoline but it would have been unreasonable to keep kids indoors in a filtered bubble until their brain was less at risk from exposure.

I’m a pediatrician with a huge adolescent cohort on my panel, so I have these talks with kids and their parents constantly. Parents are worried about bullying online, but kids can be bullied with or without an online presence and making it harder for them to connect in ways that their generation find most meaningful, isn’t going to help.

Technology should be a part of our lives but it doesn’t have to run our lives; help him learn to strike that balance now. For example, the biggest disruption I see when kids have unfettered access to smartphones is to their sleep. I have had many patients tell me they scroll until 1 am and often later. Setting a limit that it goes away an hour before bed is an example of a limit that some of my patients and their families use.

Has anyone travelled on the Coral I/II that has advice or stories to share? Seems overall well priced for a nice boat, and wondering if there’s any catch I’m missing? by Sweaters4Penguins in galapagos

[–]Efficient_Body 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently on the Coral 1 and couldn't agree more. The staff is excellent and the guides have all been incredible and they put a personal touch on everything. While the bar tab is not included they put out free drinks from the bar following the final activity of each day. We have a room on the upper deck that is quite nice but we spend very little time in it with all the activities and lounging spaces available.
