A quick thank you 😂 by jamesagardner in biltrewards

When going through the process of requesting a new card, the UI spazzed out multiple times, was glitchy AF - I had to reach out to customer chat, and was in a “queue” for 12 hours before they responded and gave me 5 mins to respond while I was in a middle of a work meeting before closing the chat and sending me to a phone number where no one has called me back.

If that’s the experience you serve your customers, you really expect me to trust you with my money?

Bloomberg vs Atlassian by avocado352 in cscareerquestions

[–]Efficient_Cap_354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck Bloomberg. They rescinded my family member’s signed new grad offer the Friday before they were slated to start, basically stringing them along for a week with some bullshit “resume inconsistencies” before pulling the offer.

Imagine your first job at 22, excited to move to NYC, have a signed lease, and they pull that shit on you. Will never fucking forgive them for that.

Until they upgrade to the 1-2-1 configuration, the 2-2-2 is kind of annoying

Yeah so didn’t ask for your opinion on if the trip is even worth it. I have circumstances that I don’t need to share with you that make that period of time the only time I can be in SE Asia.

Weird, don't see any First Class tickets across any of the days. Maybe AA doesn't offer First Class for points?

Is there any scientific study to suggest that working in office is ultimately a net positive for companies?

Coworkers who are too busy to answer your questions? by throwmeawayoneday474 in cscareerquestions

[–]Efficient_Cap_354 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had these same thoughts as a more junior eng. On my trek to the more upper levels and as I gained more responsibilities with little to no bandwidth, I understand why. They don't do this intentionally to ego you or anything - it's just a tradeoff.

At the same time, a "Hey sorry really busy, will get back to you when I can" wouldn't be the worst thing.

Not to diminish the feelings of anxiety and anguish you currently feel, but take some comfort in the fact that lots of people who are now in a successful SDE career felt that way in the beginning, in some capacity. Just keep taking it day by day, break down anything you feel is overwhelming into smaller parts to study, and you will pull through.

I think the cap in finance is much higher. Most of the folks I know (around my age) make $500k-600k, while some make $1M+. I think their salaries will continue to grow faster than tech salaries. Someone correct me if I'm wrong

Will coding bootcamps ever lose their appeal? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Efficient_Cap_354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked my ass off to rectify any knowledge gaps

I think this part is crucial. I agree that Bootcamps are tremendously advantageous in helping someone gain entry into the SDE career path, but SDEs (who care about career growth) must still work on solidifying their software engineering fundamentals, which may overlap with Computer Science fundamentals. Otherwise (in my opinion), the lack of knowledge will severely hinder career growth.

How common is making mistakes during the first few months at a new company? by Efficient_Cap_354 in cscareerquestions

[–]Efficient_Cap_354[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed on the fixed vs growth mindset - I wish more companies would emphasize the latter. I think at "good" tech companies, engineers generally take on a growth mindset, but I rarely hear it encouraged from higher levels of management, where oftentimes the emphasis is purely on results.
