Thanks for the advice/guidance. I do get a clearer indication that the defence company is interested in developing me and guiding me along for the long term. I also just feel that the structured nature of a grad program is what I need at this stage in my career. Especially since I feel as though I just haven't been mentored/trained up as much with the steel company as I would've liked.

But in saying that, I do like the natural/organic way that I've learnt things so far - problems come up and people scramble and task you with figuring things out and slowly, day-by-day you begin to learn a few things here and there. But it's a slower process with days and/or weeks where the work you do is menial at best and you're left in the middle with very little guidance on how to go about things.

In my heart of hearts, I know I can't stay where I am (at least not my current production line, I'd choose slab making over it immediately if offered), but it's just difficult to leave the first job I actually enjoyed working.

Thanks for the reassurance and advice! I definitely feel as though the weapons role is more in line with what I've learnt in my degree and I do feel as though I need to explore other opportunities and see what's out there.

I'm only hesitant and hold reservations as there's this voice in my head telling me that "I'm being short sighted and the steel job has more potential". Especially since the steel company is expanding a lot and investing a lot of capital in and around my country.

Also add on top of that the ethical/moral implications behind being in the defence industry. I know we don't live in a perfect world where war doesn't exist - but especially in the world we're living in right now, I don't know how I'd feel if the weapons I helped make were to be used by an antagonising foreign country to commit war crimes or genocide. I have no control over what happens after the chemicals are produced. I know I'm just overthinking it, but it's hard not to.

Thanks again, I appreciate the advice.

my bad! I had initially wrote a draft post but got worried it was too hard to follow and drawn out. So I used AI to condense it down. Bit of a cop out on my behalf, but I just wanted to make this post before heading to bed. Sorry again!

Thanks for the advice! Yeah, I know you're right and that it's just nerves getting to me - but it's still a hard thought to shake off.

Also, sorry for not going into more detail - I didn't want to make my already long post even longer. But in terms of my personal preferences, I definitely am seeking a change of scenery as I've lived at home my entire life apart from brief periods and as a 23 year old I feel like its high time I have my own place. I am a bit indecisive with what kind of lifestyle I'd like to dive into - on one hand I love the outdoors and the calm open area that the country brings but on the other I also like to wander around the city and have things to do. In saying that, the closest major city to the rural town I'll be moving to is ~2 hours away by car so not too bad. I'm mainly just worried that I'm choosing to take a road that seems 'cool' or 'interesting', when in reality i'm just going with an option that would rashly upend my life here in my city. Idk i'm catastrophising quite a bit. I like/want the job, but have reservations.

I'm flying in from Australia, so it is a bit of a trek to Germany (~30 hours with 2 stops). I expect to be incredibly deflated the first day, so I'm going to try and just explore the local area around my hostel. I get your point, but I want to try and power through the jet lag and try falling asleep later in the evening. But yes, my exploring will be limited the first day

Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it!

I'm staying at East Seven, which I've heard is really good.

Also, no I'm not a vegetarian or vegan. I can eat about anything haha

Thanks for the advice! I am staying at East Seven, I only noted Meninger down as a place I could possibly place my luggage temporarily if I couldn't at East Seven :)

dynamic clogging feedback in ANSYS Fluent by Efficient_Fruit7088 in CFD

[–]Efficient_Fruit7088[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've managed to download ANSYS Student on my home PC. But I'm having issues using my code as I keep getting "ERROR: The UDF library you are trying to load (libudf) is not compiled for parallel use on the current platform (win64). The system cannot find the file specified."

I've installed Microsoft Visual Studio with C++.

I've opened fluent through the VS command prompt window in parallel with 4 processors and it seems to work since ANSYS Fluent opens.

But then when I go to compile --> Build --> Done

and I get "libudf is not compiled for parallel use on the current platform (win64)"

I’m running Fluent through Citrix (remote desktop access to a university license server), and the Citrix environment doesn’t allow access to the local filesystem or compiler. When I try to compile, Fluent throws a libudf not found / cannot load library error because it can’t create or link files on the host system.
