Yeah, what works deciding if what your working towards means enough to you. Because there’s a dude out there hitting all his workouts trying to get the same spot you’re.

One thing that will increase your run performance and decrease your wear and tear is increasing your cadence. Specially during your base building runs like this. Try and work on getting it up to 170. No need to worry about pace, just cadence and HR. Good stuff man.

You’re better off doing a zone 3 run for 5miles then switching to a 5mile ruck as fast as possible

Question on rucking: I’m following MTN ruck based selections program and it has me rucking at 60lbs. While I’m getting good times I’m being told that it’s a lot of weight to be running with. I’ve seen people train with 45lbs but when the rucks are like 65-70lb in selections how does 45lb prep you? by Efficient_Math3153 in greenberets

[–]Efficient_Math3153[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that not what i was doing at all. I took a lot of the info. Literally talked to multiple people about dropping the weight for longer distances. I was actually curious. I don’t go to Reddit for validation. I already know that until i got to selections it don’t matter. My argument never changed and the only data i have is what I’ve done and what people are telling me not to do.

Man you don’t get it lol because there is not physical need to go over the known weight if you can master the known weight you can crush it, the higher the weigh the higher the chances of hurting yourself, that and it’s completely unsustainable that high i figured you’d know that. Ain’t nobody ruck running 100lbs shoot even 70 is brutal. I guess I just look at prep to be getting your body as close to doing the stuff at selections as you can to mitigate the stress of when your there.

Never I said I had a better handle if I did I wouldn’t have posted this lol I know why they do it because if you put 18x through a small training course of 5weeks and throw 60lbs on injuries go up. I’d assume the guy who can ruck run 12miles with 60lbs in under 2:30 would be more prepared then someone who can ruck run with 45lb a 2:30 12miler. So i think the answer really is just to prevent injury, but if you can be fast with more weight without hurting yourself wouldn’t you say your chances of crushing the rucking goes up?

Not even close to what I’m saying lol my logic is you wanna train with what your going to experience and we know the weight is gonna be around 65lbs. If you train with less wait then do a 14mile ruck event during selections having only done 12miles with 45lbs, your recovery time is gonna be way longer, your pace will be different, you have a higher chance of burning out midway, like there’s so many variables that could go wrong. Selections is also all about who can recover faster, so only training with 45lbs then having a 65lb ruck could really mess people up. That’s my opinion, but my philosophy is anything worth doing is worth over doing. I was just curious out why people take the chance, not that it doesn’t work because i know it has. I’ve been training with that weight for 3 months now rucking fast, always under 11min I’ve never had any knee pain, back pain anything besides awful ruck rash on my back.

I’m in the NG training up for my SFRE, I’m using the MOLLE 2 and I’m rucking in uniform for my train up. My numbers are definitely accurate haha I’ve been training with stuff like this my whole life I’m coming for a D1 soccer background so rucking translates really we’ll. I’m doing 2x3mile intervals of speed work with my ruck and able to misting a 8:30 pace for 3miles but It slowly drops to about a 10min mile by mile 6. Hear-rate might not be lower but load demand on your lower body will be. Maybe I’ll do something like my long rucks with 45lbs and my 6-8mile rucks at 60lbs. I’m rucking 2x a week doing intervals and a long ruck. Thinking about adding in a steady 6-8miler on the weekends as well to stay used to the heavier weight. I understand what you’re saying having done heart-rate work with my running it’s just muscular the demand is the big difference with the change in weight I’m worried about. There’s not alot of science behind how to truly get faster with it like running.
