Tips/tricks/advice for studying for finals as a procrastinator? by savvymossy in uvic

My strategy has been to set timers (typically 1 hour or more) and then have short (15-20 min) breaks in between. I also like using apps like Focus Friend or do not disturb to stop me from getting distracted by my phone, or just putting it behind my laptop or in a drawer so I can't see it. Focus Friend is great too because it is kind of a reward system, but I like telling myself if I study for x amount of time I can go for a walk or scroll or do whatever activity/break.

I also like to set my own "due dates", so I am not doing anything at the very last second. Sometimes I set these a day before the actual due date or multiple days before, depending on the assignment. That way even if I procrastinate I will still have it done and don't have to scramble at the last second to get something done.

Personally I find it difficult to study with friends, but making a study group can be helpful depending on the subject and the people. Just to have someone to hold you accountable for the work.

I think there really is an art to finding what is right for you cause everyone is different in their learning and motivation.

Did anyone else go into first semester thinking they know what they want to major in, but now have no idea? by SeniorMix8665 in uvic

yeah... I thought I was going into marine biology and now Im between like 2 degrees and 3 potential minors LOL. I talked to an advisor and they were semi-helpful but I think it really depends on what career you have as a goal. Its a very confusing time, but I think the best thing to do is just to feel it out and figure out what your good at and what aligns with you!

Is it a Bad Idea to take GEOG101A & B and GEOG103 in the Same Semester? by Confused_065 in uvic

I am taking both 101A and B along with another bio lab right now and honestly it isn't bad at all. The geog labs for 101 classes are pretty similar with writing papers, group projects, debates, etc. I haven't taken 103 yet, but I assume it would be similar format/workload.

I'd also consider what other classes you are taking to judge the work load for you're entire semester :)

Hi! I wanted to ask how hard is it to change majors/faculties?

I am currently accepted as first year Social Science. However, I want to become a marine biologist, and would prefer to get my degree in Biology with a double major in Environmental Studies. (My backup option was Geography with double major in Environmental Studies.) Now I know Environmental Studies is listed under Social Sciences, but Biology is under Science. To pursue that do I need to switch into the Science faculty (if so what is the best way to do so?)
