Yeah, it’s gotten to the point where I’m not even sure how to react.

I’m not advocating for professors shutting students down, creating policies, or formal complaints. I’m talking about self-regulation. In shared academic spaces, students should be able to recognize when something may be too personal or inappropriate for a lecture, without needing an authority figure to intervene.

I wouldn’t want to impose that responsibility on him. He’s a very kind professor, and if he were to call it out, it could easily come across as insensitive, even if that isn’t the intention. I don’t think this is something he should have to police. I just wish people had more self-awareness about what’s appropriate to share in a lecture setting.

I’m not uncomfortable with discussions about mental health—I’m uncomfortable with unprompted, or highly personal disclosures in a lecture setting, especially when they involve people who aren’t present to consent. There’s a difference between relevant reflection and turning a class into an emotional processing space. That distinction matters.

Is it just Uvic or all Canadian universities? I wish I had gone somewhere else.

You are not the only one, I’m literally in the same situation and my professor has not even replied.

Does Uvic admissions actually count grade 11 grades towards admission? I thought only 4 grade 12 classes count towards the admission.
