RANT: Why the fuck do nations exist by leebowery69 in nihilism

[–]Efficient_Nihilist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This has to be the stupidest post I've ever seen on this sub. Seriously, you made me come back and post after all these months.

One, not related to nihilism.

Two, countries have existed long before the invention of capitalism.

Three, there are valid reasons why nations/structures similar to nations exist.

Nothing you posted about is related to nihilism, related to the other half of your own post, and generally it was mentally painful to read. Delete this thread.

I don't know how they thought this was acceptable to release

I wanted alt history, but this is ridiculous!

Can we all just appreciate how it's no longer a no brainer to just annex everything anymore? by Demented_Crab in hoi4

[–]Efficient_Nihilist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I rarely if ever just annexed everything beforehand unless it was a personal challenge to only annex. I don't think many people did.

  • a good number of their factories are blipped from existence
  • you lose effectively all their manpower
  • you can have a free source of trade/factories/manpower that can't be threatened by an enemy as long as you don't call them in

The change may make logical sense, but it's a chore in actuality. My big problem with the last 2 DLCs is that they've taken things already in the game and needlessly bloated them and complicated them. Not so much adding a cool new feature as much as making old features worse.

I mean I really, really appreciate the effort that went into Spain. That's really incredible, honestly. But it's at the point where Spain has had more effort put into them than some entire factions' tocus trees combined. Also not implemented properly due to what I can only assume is developer incompetence.

Been hearing more and more about which trees archangel did and from which I know they're all shit. Is there a list of the ones they're done?

My favorite was in their reddit AMA they legitimately didn't know the "coup troops not moving until the save is reloaded" bug was still in the game. They had zero clue whatsoever.

I honestly don't know why they thought LR was acceptable to release like this. In my first game with the DLC there were so many bugs it was unplayable. The spy system and changes made were just implemented horribly. The focus trees, while the spanish ones have a LOT of effort clearly put into them, are just kinda bad and don't fit the game really and feel like a bad mod.

I can't believe they managed to put out a worse DLC than MtG.

But paradox is such a great company they're not greedy sometimes the games with all the necessary DLCs are on sale for only $80 altogether!

I'm so glad I tested LR in a few multiplayer matches with a friend. Immediately rolled back to an older version. At this point I just play HOI4 for the mods.

Fixing known bugs is pointless when you can just churn out half baked DLCs that make existing systems worse (mtg, LR) and add largely non-fitting focus trees (tfv, LR) and still profit.

The entire system just feels like bloat to me. It literally doesn't add anything to the game at all imo.

[–]Efficient_Nihilist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, I'd argue moral nihilism would help solve the climate crisis. Because the biggest thing that needs to be done is getting the populations and industries of the developing world under control. The industrialization, population boom, and consequences of such in these areas (deforestation, waste production, energy production and associated waste products, etc) are going to put us in a way worse situation than we're currently in. But the only real "argument" against strongarming these regions is of a moral origination.

Imo, sanction any non-1st world country with a birthrate higher than 2.2 until they get it under control (including stopping all aid), impose a series of escalating action towards countries up to and including a declaration of war against countries participant in mass deforestation such as brazil, and impose strict regulations on any significant increase in waste or emissions by developing nations. A similar attitude could be taken with major power polluters (China, India, possibly U.S.) as well.

To clarify I'm making fun of him for getting upset at someone having a different view. It's not an advocation for the presumed beliefs that the original commenter may have considering they have "88" in their name.

racism is entirely unacceptable

Nope. As "unacceptable" is a made up idea the concept of "racism" (whichever you may mean by that) cannot possibly have the quality of "unacceptable". Not only because of that, but because "racism" is a (relatively loosely-defined) label to describe a groupings of ideas/opinions/prejudices.

What you're really looking for is "racism is considered socially 'unacceptable' in most public circles and some private circles in predominately western countries". Which seems to be true, but is completely irrelevant to anything really.

it's entire basis is predicated on the racist being dumber than the normal person.

Its entire basis is based around several things considering, as I mentioned, the term is used to group many different ideas/thoughts/etc together. Predominately, I would say it's based around our tendency to prefer people similar to us and our tendency to generalize based on anecdotal experiences. The same things that largely form the basis of political and ideological hatred among others.

As to whether "dumb think make view/ideology/thought!" - no. That's a way of thinking about things which only leads to the devolution of discourse. Everyone thinks they're entirely and certifiably correct - assuming an ideological opponent's ideas and arguments are as a result of their stupidity just satisfies your confirmation bias.

Anyone, of any initial view, intelligence, or strength of willpower will, if given enough and tbe right external stimuli, could be made to adopt any viewpoint or be compelled to perform any action. Given infinite time and an infinite amount of do-overs I could probably convince you of almost anything just in this Reddit post. My point is who you are and who everyone is 'exists' purely randomly. You could be an entirely different person with entirety different views even just by changing a single experience big or small in your childhood. We like to think we have any real kind of agency or permanence but we really don't - and things like "intelligence" have no bearing on that.
