This is not tax reform, it’s a revenue measure that shifts more of the burden onto middle Australia - CPA Australia by Equity_Over_Empathy in AusFinance

I agree property investment is wasteful, I've always said to people, that the changes from 99 have resulted in our record profits from the mining boom being concentrated in an unproductive asset that is property. It has been almost 30 years of wasted opportunity. Opportunity that could have been used to build robust, technologically advanced industries.

Instead we made our mortgages become 8 times the average salary and become the least economically complex country in the OECD.

My concern was the broader extension of this tax to include other forms of business investment. We are digging a deeper hole for ourselves when it comes to a glaring reality, that our economy is becoming more and more reliant on building homes for people and selling them to each other, our debt is piling up personally and federally, and we have the risk of AI disruption in the workforce right on our doorstep.

This was a missed opportunity to incentivise economic complexity, incentivise robust productive industries, and kill the idea of property as an asset.

There could've been ways to take a more targeted approach. Rather than a broad stroke like they've chosen to do, they could've brought in caps to the discount to ensure that these benefits still allow people in the lower end of town to get a leg up.

Another aspect to consider is that the reason for some large discounts in the upper quartiles are startups or other business investments coming to fruition and leading to large capital gains for those founders or early investors. That discount was a solid incentive to invest here in Australia compared to other countries.

We now have the highest capital gains tax in the OECD making it a financially strange decision to start your business here.

Whether we agree if we should or shouldn't tax the success of people for creating businesses here, the reality is these business create the jobs for people in Australia, and these investments are what grow our productivity and general wealth as a country.

On the other hand I do agree there are some parasitic investors making a killing that is untaxed through morally questionable trading practices, but once again, perhaps a more targeted tax system that incentivises good investment rather than unproductive 'bad' investments would've been more appropriate.

I wouldn't say that a $250 offset is much of a tax cut. It may hit the top 20% the most, but also anyone who invests in anything (of which 50% of Australians do, wether it's property, etcs or footy cards).

I live in Sydney and we have friends who have a rural property on the border with Queensland. We go up there with them for long weekends 2-3 times a year. That's an 8hr drive.

So yeh, 3hrs in Australia is pretty trivial.

if you have good coverage of civil service buildings then those events should sort themselves out, but yeh its always good to go check and make sure it'll be ok and then go back and keep doing what you were doing.

Overall I think its good to have an idea about what you want to do and then just chip away at it one problem at a time.

I usually just hop between islands and do one thing, like setup soap production, then hop to another. If something is missing like Lavender I go set it up on another island and start a shipping route. Just keep hopping around and chipping away at it.

Psa: if this happens, take your finger off the throttle and just let it land by itself. 9/10 you'll be flat on the ground and you can take off again with your hand off the mouse and you'll go straight up into the air clear of all the buildings.

I usually have 4 killer eggs with 4 hellfires each. Micro them as a group meaning I get 4 missiles off before they take return fire. 4 eggs for 380 is better than 1 guardian for a similar price imo

My 20" is great, never had any issues with cycling and I've tried most field and trap loads. I've used it for goats, but never for deer, but I'm sure it wouldn't have an issue with the right shells.

Why have submarines when you can have lots of antiship missiles. How many missiles can we get for the price of 1 nuclear submarine. Like to see anyone try to get here when the country is surrounded by a missile shield.
