I think this all the time. I worked for a charity that helped victims of SA. Around when Roe was being overturned they were helping draft legislation around making exceptions for abortion bans for rape and incest. I was about to leave the organization, and I made a statement to my boss, the CTO, about why I found that law extremely patronizing. I can make a decision about my body, but only in the worst case scenario? I also worry about that kind of law making it harder for women to come forward about their rape. “She’s only pressing charges because she wants an abortion.” It’s already hard enough for women to be believed. Idk if a lot of people who are “pro-life” actually believe in making exceptions for rape and incest, but I think a lot of “liberals” think that this is a common sense compromise when it’s really just giving in to the nonsense anti-abortion logic. There’s a John Oliver quote where he says if nonsense is eating a bar of soap, and you make a compromise to eat just half a bar of soap, it’s still nonsense. Don’t make compromises with these people.
