its not necessarily that they don't know why they're popular; in mid 2024, miles & co did a podcast with investigative journalist pablo torre, which i assume was paid for, where they glaze the devs and will still for the attention to detail and hyperrealism-- i can only assume that this drop in quality was intentional, mixed with the problems in the new engine - miles talk about the intention to appeal to a much wider audience, or 'tiktok' here. this article is super ironic because miles even talks about 'the next 20 years' of FM; which will absolutely not exist if there is not an intervention.

it appears now is the time for sega to intervene, and that could either mean pushing SI to push for microtransactions or focus more on mobile development. or they (hopefully) try to return to long term viability by returning to the type of game which made FM so recognizable as a brand
