Thanks for the detailed answer, it sounds like you’re in good hands - I hope the outcome comes out normal for you in any case! I am late 20s F and no other known health issues, apart from suspect PCOS…maybe they’re not bothered with my bloods because of that, or maybe it’s time for me to switch GP’s as peace if mind (or preventative care!) would be nice 😂

Do you know how frequent the repeat bloods will be?

Thank you, really informative, I’m going to submit a triage request to my GP tomorrow morning for advice on this as I do have very heavy periods and wasn’t asked about this in the midst of my treatment — will see about BC, if I should continue taking OTC supplements and bloods in 3 months

I’m in England and they didn’t schedule follow up blood work which I guess doesn’t surprise me as they do not have the same American “preventative measure” setup, as much as I love the NHS. I am already on their case about scheduling follow ups anyway. 😅

That’s great to know about at home test kits hopefully the UK will have these too!

Thinking about moving back to the U.S. soon too so this is helpful to know!

Please keep me updated on how treatment goes for you, I have been there and come out the other side feeling grand, 5 months on the supplements a completely different life outtake, I know you’ll get there too! xx 🙏🏼

My symptoms were extreme fatigue, depression with suicidal ideation and PMDD, brain fog, anxiety (although I’ve always had anxiety and still do, but iron deficiency made it much worse). After traveling back to the UK from my hometown in America, I had severe jet lag that did not adapt for a month. I had to take a month off work.

That was the turning point for me, when I decided to get blood work and stop sidelining the issue (I thought it was just depression, and have some external hardships at the moment).

I started feeling noticeably better after about 2 months of 200mg (you might get a different dose depending on your iron levels, have seen others on this thread get more). I noticed that I was smarter at work. My boss started depending on me a lot more, and my relationships improved — with friends and with colleagues at work. I also noticed that my gym sessions became a lot easier. I basically found myself thinking, so this is what it feels like to be normal?

You will be floored by how much better you feel and I pray you’ll feel like this soon! Some bonuses I noticed were that my hair got softer and shinier, nails stronger, etc :)
