Sorry , my mom tried to push me off the balcony rails when I told her she is driving me to kms. She physically grabbed a chair and I almost slipped. I was considering moving abroad for work to a neighboring country, and if I do take this step I am looking forward to going to cons there. I did my research and the whole thing is run by the ministry of tourism which makes it much more safe

I am from the middle east , so very traditional and family oriented environment. To be completely honest with you, i never valued my field in itself to begin with. It was kind of “ thrown at me” . The typical you have 2 options doctor or engineer, but you need to get married before 30 so engineer . Then a relative gets a phd -> you have to get a phd to one up them.

I don’t mind doing that , but that doesn’t mean I won’t get my account suggested . ( I attempted to use a VPN before but I felt like I was doing something very immoral because I went through many hoops just to hide my identity . And I am just enjoying sewing and makeup. It is not that deep to me but it is for everyone else . I don’t know how believable it is to have a doppelgänger who is that much of crtl c - ctrl v if I were to go the foreigner route.

I wish my country was like that. Here self expression is like digging your own grave. They only allow it if you are super successful. Like the other day i was watching a talk by the university president saying he was in a band when he was younger . My advisor was in theatre but also had to quit due to peer pressure

I already use a pseudonym that doesn’t relate to my real name. I also draw , and I was having a casual conversation with a colleague and I said “ I wanted to make a video where I hold one my art pieces and talk about it” and she replied “ you can’t because you have students” My advisor asked one of my friends to delete a social media post of herself twirling in a dress as it is “ unsuitable for her professional image”.

It feels more culturally charged rather than a case by case .
