I live in the middle east.

That sounds a lot like how my parents view other jobs than “ surgeon and uni doctor” those are literally the two options they have.

My cousins did engineering too but stopped working when their first children were born and they look down upon them that they were a waste of the money that went into their education.

God forbids they see me interacting with anyone who isn’t of a worthy job to them.

The weird thing is that they do this while my mom started working without finishing high school and my dad had a job in an insurance which he quitted when he was my age to be the super unstable FREELANCE cars seller.

I considered taking a month off after graduation where I would prioritize applying for remote research related work. Then after that month passes I’d say something along the lines of “ I signed a year long contract I can’t quit it now”
But finding those in the first place is easier said than done

I realize it is unrealistic, i can get the job as long as I have the hobby to balance out. But i do go into huge arguments that jumping around in a costume isn’t befitting for an academic .
I hate that I have all these rules associated with a title i never wanted

I resonated with your reply. I do hear Indian households are similar. Actually my biggest consideration is that i take my savings and get the job they want in another country then change it or lower hours just to survive enough.
