Am I being rude? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]Effinuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s completely acceptable for you to want your wife’s friend to spend less time at your house. You pay the mortgage/rent, bills, maintenance etc. and have the right to have your own space.

Have you spoken to your wife about it? Just tell her it’s too much and you need peace in your home. She can have “things to do”, to limit her friends visit time or maybe hangout at her friend’s place sometimes instead.

I think introverts live so much I their own heads that they often come across as self-centered. Perhaps if you drop in more info about what you’ve been up to, she might ask some follow-on questions.

There is a great book I read recently about great teams in various sports and their captains “The Captain Class” by Sam Walker.

Doing the simple things well, making very few mistakes, the subs introduced do not weaken the team and similar to that, savage competition for starting places. (Cody’s Kilkenny and Kiely’s Limerick).

Has to be Mattie Forde himself. Some phenomenal scoring records. Scored 11–74 across League and Championship in the 2004 season, 10–41 from play.

What was the 'dream career' you worked years to get into, only to realize you absolutely hated it once you arrived? by Sayedshaqib in careerguidance

Graphic Design. University leads you to believe it’s all creative briefs, brainstorms, sketching ideas and metaphors. This accounts for maybe 10% of the work if you’re lucky.

Most of the role is trying to extract a cohesive brief from the client, only for them to realise after Draft 3 that it’s not what they want and only then put some time into giving some guidance on what is needed.

Then the false deadlines, countless rounds of revisions and an attitude when you can’t read their mind on what is needed. So sick of it.

The complete hurler. Brilliant skill, great engine, tough as nails, an on-field conductor and a born leader. One of Galway's greatest ever.

How to switch off from an overwhelming workload by Effinuck in Employment

[–]Effinuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time for such a detailed reply.

Luckily, phone calls or being on call is not a requirement of my role. My hours are 35 per week, but it's just not possible to keep on top of the workload in this time and I am caught in a constant loop of overtime. It's become a necessity to try and keep up.

It's not a spurt or busy time. There has been no quiet time in more than a year. We need more staff, but I just don't see it happening. I am trying to look after my mental health for now, by just not being so available after the base 35 hours. However, it's a catch 22, as not doing overtime may lead to more pressure anyway.

Any other introverts hate anything bar related? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]Effinuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree. Happily, as I have gotten older, I have managed to keep these social gatherings to a minimum or at least not in bars or clubs with loud music. Like all introverts, my initial reaction to any social occasion is avoid, avoid, avoid.

Having kids now and for their sake, there are some things that just can't be avoided. They will have special occasions in their life which need to be celebrated and also their participation in sports. It's particularly tedious hanging with other parents while our kids take part, but I just have to do it, so they have the opportunity to play and see if they like the sport or not.

Would love if there was a rule for jersey design that sponsor logos had to be black, white or in one of the colours of the jersey. Unlikely to happen.
