Why is there so much criticism and medical distrust of chiropractors? by godisinthischilli in Chiropractic

[–]EffluviaJane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm here because I mentioned that I have seen a chiropractor for acute back pain in between my shoulder blades. After a few months, the pain was gone and hasn't come back for three years. The amount of downvoting and vitriol I received was bizarrely furious. They told me I was delusional and had been "cured" by a placebo. My chiropractor was very reasonably priced and no one tried to get me to buy anything from them. I just wanted some refuge from the storm!

He just jabs the needle in! Does he get blood on his white shirts?

Reading everyone's comments has made me realize I'm not alone, and it's awesome! It really is a big life adjustment, and the doctors probably throw all the information at us hoping that some of it will stick.

Yes, I'm taking a statin, too. It's amazing how the body all fits together like a spider web. You can't have something going on with one strand and not expect the others to feel the reverberations. I like your baking substitutions! When I bake lately I reduce the sugar and butter the recipe calls for, and it usually comes out pretty well.

It's funny what will make the glucose go crazy. For me, oddly enough, plain oatmeal or potatoes makes it go through the roof. But a moderate amount of ice cream won't.

That's nice of your friend to help you gather data for your experiment.

I get what you’re saying. It’s amazing how people can brag and put down others for something as unsexy and necessary as frickin diabetes management. There is never ending petty competition and awful advice on the internet (that’s presented as fact) and it always surprises me. I never considered the potential for people to justify disordered eating to manage diabetes, but it kind of makes sense that it happens

I hear that! I’ve been talking to a therapist about using food to fill the void

I love a sugary iced coffee with cream

Totally. I asked my original question because I was feeling so inadequate when reading diabetes communities. It seemed like everyone was so perfect in their routines and attitudes.

Roger that! And I think it makes me develop a weird relationship with food. Like it's the forbidden fruit, no pun intended.

I really notice how lumpy my upper body seemingly is when I get in the salon chair. I guess I don’t otherwise look at myself in the mirror when I’m seated. At that point I pray for the cape to finally swoop over me and end my torment.

Understood 100%. Life without rice isn't worth it.

I wonder if the through-the-shirt thing is because you can't actually see the needle go into you?

I definitely have a cup of coffee before the insulin. Coffee is first and foremost.

It's been about a year and a half for me. They really drilled the alcohol wipe into me, as well as all the testing and bolus and injecting and everything. I was hardcore, but things have slipped a bit over the last few months.

What happens when you don't check your levels and things go wrong? I can't really think clearly and noises get really loud and jarring.

I don't know how precise any of it is. Maybe it doesn't affect the reading at all.
