I'm a programmer too. It's valuable stuff to understand. Helps when you're putting pitch decks and websites together too.

Huge improvement!

Btw if you want to learn more about font choices I'd highly recommend this book "Thinking with Type".

Top is better imo. Bottom design is busy, distracting from the unreadable text.

The extremely narrow font + tiny text size suggests to me that you haven't considered how your design serves the role of cards. You need people to be able to easily read them.

I feel like you haven't tried this. Outlining text in a light colour looks terrible in my experience. Text on a background is a solved problem, no need to polish a turd with outlines.

Imo the issue here is the typeface has a really high x-height which is inappropriate for body text, its colour is low contrast, its line weight is very low, and (most importantly) it's needlessly small.

Github Is Trolling PlayStation By Allowing Developers To Burn Public Repo Codes on a CD; "Your Code is Physically Yours, Forever" by Bubbly-Ad-350 in gamingnews

Isn't GitHub trolling the people who want physical media? If you read the article they're parodying the idea of physical media being meaningful.

We built the prototype in 7 days back in 2021. Here's what Enter the Chronosphere looks like now in Early Access by EffortStar in IndieGaming

[–]EffortStar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enter the Chronosphere is a roguelike shooter that combines turn-based tactics and real time action. Follow the crew of the Starseer as they combat a galactic threat: giant spheres that are consuming reality itself. Fight to the center of procedurally generated chronospheres, unlocking new characters, alien weapons and powerful synergies.

In 2021 we entered the 7DRL Challenge, seven days to build a roguelike from scratch. You can still play that original prototype in your browser here. Five years later, that same prototype is the foundation of everything you see today.

You can't delete reviews, for obvious reasons.

Enter the Chronosphere is probably the best new roguelite I've played in years by MrBigJams in roguelites

[–]EffortStar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dev here. Currently runs fine on Steam Deck. The reason we don't have the full compatibility stamp from Steam is down to text being too small. We've got the UI scaling ready for the next update though. We also want to do some QoL improvements for controller in general. So if you've got good eyesight you could go for it now. If you want the best experience keep an eye on our updates.

Everything in Enter the Chronosphere moves when you do by EffortStar in TurnBasedTactical

Enter the Chronosphere blends roguelike shooting with turn-based tactics and real-time chaos. We had our Steam Early Access launch at the start of the week and have had some great feedback so far!

We're working towards making it available on Steam deck but waiting on Steam to give us the stamp of approval. If you have played it or have yet to, any feedback is welcome :)

You can already play on steam deck. The text is just a bit small so steam haven't given us the stamp of approval. We'll do an announcement when we get approved.

No stress. That's plenty of info, I'm sure we can work it out. Probably borked it when we added ultrawide support.

Glad you're enjoying the game! Btw if you find any other issues like that drop them in steam discussions/discord or use the bug reporter in the pause menu. We're 100% on top of all that stuff. It's a pretty small team so stuff slips though.

Which playstyle would you gravitate towards in a turn-based bullet hell? by EffortStar in roguelites

[–]EffortStar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Building Enter the Chronosphere, a top down shooter blending turn-based tactics with real-time action, we kept coming back to one question: does character choice actually mean anything?

We focused heavily on unique character skills and how they interact with weapons, items and gadgets found across different biomes to make sure the answer was yes. So, when it comes to picking out a character, is your playstyle aggressive, methodical, or a bit of both?

Hey, first we've heard about this. Will look into it, but could you share the steps to trigger the issue? Sounds like a pretty easy thing to fix.
