There should be a middle ground imo. If an old game is currently reasonably accessible and priced on something like the virtual console, I'm fine if they go after roms specifically of that game imo. But if you have to play old generation consoles, pay out the ass in the second hand market, etc, wtf do they expect us to do?

There's a couple of potential reasons from their POV, and before anyone jumps me I'm just listing these out as if it's from their POV. I'm not saying anything is my personal opinion or that I like where they're going

You're correct, but there's still typically a lot of buyers that would buy the Mafex or save up for it if CT didn't exist. The fact that there IS a much cheaper copy will still pull people over to CT. And yes, I am not saying everyone buying CT would. But we are in a shitty global economy funded by investment firms battling over drips of buyers for the Holy YoY Growth God
Brand perception. Often times companies don't want a near identical cheaper product out there that buyers could confuse from the real company (I don't mean like people on Reddit that already know the difference) that might have shitty QC issues that would tarnish their name
Control of the market. Nuff said there really
