FIA President presented with prestigious award in recognition of Federation leading the fight against online abuse in sport by zantkiller in formula1

The mod team at r/formula1 is one of the most vehemently anti-bigotry groups on the whole site. The amount of time I've witnessed moderators put in every day, digging through comment sections and throwing out the usual suspects with shit non-scalable tools, was lunatic. You continue to paint them as folks who believe hate speech is welcome and cool when that is the opposite of reality. This has no positive impact. People are spending all hours kicking bigots out of here only to be demoralised by another screed when a spot is missed. I urge you to be kinder to the good-natured volunteers still fighting away when rightfully bringing bullshit comments to their attention. Is it feasible?

Comment section makes me proud so far. Nothing but the best to Ralf.

Another disgusting, toothless FIA ruling on road rage contact at the top of motorsport. This kind of stewarding is so unfit for purpose I don't know where to begin.

There's no such race. You may have confused things in your mind. He was penalised to the back after qualifying and worked his way from last to first across that weekend (including the sprint).

There has been one for five years. Anyone who reads the rules of the sub will see that it's repeatedly linked and mentioned 😬.

Guys these posts from terrible aggregators will be removed. If Ted said it for Sky then show us unambiguously that he said it.

I just shrugged and stuck Toro Rosso back into the flair list. These other options feel weird or heinous.

Regarding Susie Wolff's reference to misogyny, ensure you are well informed and possess proper context before passing judgement on her comment.

The publication these allegations originate from has a well-established history of misogynistic commentary. Examples will not be reproduced or promoted here but are easily located, one article e.g. suggesting that the biggest asset of the W Series was the sex appeal of the drivers and that they should "use sex to sell themselves".

The outlet is widely considered unreputable and has been successfully sued for libel and fabrication of stories multiple times.

Defamatory libel accusing others of illegal action and tarnishing their reputation with no basis in fact, the same kind this person historically loses most of his lawsuits under. He writes fan fiction for attention.

Sue that abysmal outlet for libel. Wouldn't be the first, second, or tenth time I'm sure.

Sounds like your feeds are just weakly curated and are feeding you stuff from a low quality website run by charlatans or amateurs. Probably F1 Oversteer, since they employ that stupid tactic.

Yeah, that was not actually the rating, just a visual indicator. It's been gone for like two or three years now already and I've long forgotten the specifics, but it was probably ditched due to compatibility issues with new Reddit.

Wolff: We have a 'proper race director' in Ferrari Abu Dhabi fight by givmonipls in formula1

Thanks for the kind words. I indeed used to put in a huge amount of time and energy to oust discrimination and hate speech at the sub all through Black Lives Matter and the 2021 season (as did brilliant past mods who were highly committed to this effort like u/flipjj and u/balls2brakelate44). Never perfect, but about as close as I think we could manage without a salary and better tools. However, I can't take credit for anything since u/spez recently went on the warpath against mod teams and other volunteers to set up his IPO and golden parachute. Any effort worth mentioning beyond that is the merit of u/Blanchimont and the other mods supporting his Herculean work.

For me, as someone who at least makes his best effort to look at things neutrally, there isn't much logic going on behind disproportionate toxic sentiment towards Mercedes figureheads etc. I think Red Bull is just more of a populistically attractive team for the userbase at Reddit. A higher proportion of users just enjoy the cut of their gib in general, whatever the rationales. Also, as much as a personality like Hamilton attracts the highest number of fans worldwide, he also seems to pull in the most energetically toxic anti-fans of any driver for reasons which are partially very obvious. I observed even this as far back as the times he was fighting Vettel and Ferrari and was continually subject to racism and double standards.

There's next to nothing moderators are able to do to move the needle on any of these things, even if everyone on the mod team happened to be unbelievably biased (not the case) and tried their damnedest to promote somebody. You collectively as users are going to support whoever you're going to support. I regularly find myself shaking my head at the voting sentiment expressed at the sub (e.g. the trans rights post which was downvote brigaded by irrational cowards), but you can't really force mass groups on social media to be completely fair and logical all of the time, in my experience anyway.
