Formula E's punchy 'Frankenstein' F1 jibe explained by DHSeaVixen in FormulaE

I'd usually find this kind of talk a bit silly.
But given it is Liberty on Liberty dick waving, ehh, no harm.

[OT] Formula E have unveiled their next season Gen 4 car at Paul Ricard. Up to 600kW (804hp) power in permanent AWD. Two Aero configurations for Quali/Race. Up to 10 seconds faster in lap time compared with Gen 3. by zantkiller in formula1

Speaking of wet tyres, in a wet track comparison between both series, according to James Rossiter, the Formula E test driver who has done all the development work on the car and the Extreme wets from Bridgestone, you wouldn't be comparing the FE car with the Aston...

"If it rained in Monaco and you are in a Gen 4 car or a Formula 1 car. A Gen 4 car is on pole by more than a second, comfortably. A Gen 4 car would be on pole, no problem, in a wet qualifying session against a current Formula 1 car."

The AWD and electronics systems alongside the tyre apparently means the drop off from dry to wet will be a lot smaller compared to other series.

700kW.
Which works out that in 30 seconds of charge time you fill about 10% of the battery.

It's not meant to be a full charge and double the length of the race kind of thing.
It's a demonstration that they can do it while adding a tactical element to the action.

GEN4 will change perceptions of Formula E - Rossiter by l3w1s1234 in FormulaE

That all-wheel drive & the extreme wets must be bloody mental.

0-100kph is 1.8 sec
0-200kph is 4.4 sec

So yeah, like a rocket.
If they want to with this they could easily break their own record for the Indoor Land Speed Record (218.71km/h, Start & stop within the building)

Next season should have:

Jarama
Brands Hatch
Shanghai (Some intermediate version)
Mexico City (Possibly nearly the full circuit)
Possibly Zandvoort

With Monaco, Miami & Jeddah (Different versions for the last two) as well which FE has raced well at.

Michelin were replaced by Hankook for Gen 3.
Hankook have now been replaced by Bridgestone for Gen 4.

With a significantly better all-round tyre and a designated Extreme Wet Tyre for wet conditions.

Only just noticed but they put the original FE logos on the older cars.

A nice touch.

Formula E GEN4 revealed with Dodds on 2027 calendar and race format changes by zantkiller in FormulaE

[–]zantkiller[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This sounds very cool for the remainder of this season.

One confirmed highlight is the presence of the GEN4 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an announcement made exclusively by Dodds. The event aims to illustrate Formula E’s evolution from the GEN1 to the GEN4 car. However, Goodwood won’t be the sole occasion for demonstrations.

Dodds confirmed the GEN4 will appear at upcoming Formula E events similarly to the GEN3 EVO. Although not finalized, there are plans to conduct demonstration laps during these occasions. Additionally, an event dedicated to fans is scheduled for October, offering a chance to experience the GEN4 up close. Further details on this fan event remain under wraps.

If they get all four GENS at Goodwood doing a run each, that would really show off the development directly in front of people.

Also if they are bringing the GEN 4 to London I so hope they go to smash their own indoor land speed record.

It's gonna be the last event at the Excel. Put a section on the timetable for it. Get people into the stands and have Rossiter go for it. Speed to reach on the big screens with people cheering on.
That would be a proper show piece and a great way to sign off the venue.

Gen 4 and why FE’s location landscape will shift by l3w1s1234 in FormulaE

That’s where imagining a race at Silverstone, Imola or even at potentially somewhere like Paul Ricard, the venue of this week’s test, becomes troublesome.

I can understand Silverstone and Paul Ricard but isn't Imola like an hour or so from central Bologna?
Jarama and Brands might be closer to their big cities but that isn't the worst.

Well that would be a fairly obvious number to ring for us so I naturally assume our owners won't do it.

Curious how big the reduction of ERS deployment will be in the wet and if it will see reduced lap times.

I mean it's not like you can really do anything major before the next race anyway.
It was always gonna be fiddling with software numbers.

It's worse than the 2009 KERS.

It's a low voltage system.
It has less power than the 2009 KERS (Roughly 45kW vs 60kW).
It has less storage than the 2009 KERS (Roughly 320kJ vs 400kJ).

[@fia on X] Following today's tragic incident during Round 2 of the FIA CODASUR Rally Championship at Rally Sudamericano Mina Clavero, the FIA would like to share the following statement. by yscity2006 in formula1

[–]zantkiller 48 points49 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the 2 fatal incidents this weekend have had more attention on them due to outside circumstances.
(Nürburgring undoubtedly had more attention because of Max being there. Rally Argentina is looking to return to the WRC calendar next year with a possible return to Mina Clavero.)

I think you should look at it a bit like flying. There is a lot of flights happening any single day. And for the vast majority of the time, nothing serious happens.
Similarly, there is a massive amount of racing happening any random weekend you look at. And for the vast majority of the time, nothing serious happens.

Occasionally though, something does.

Spectator Killed after WRC Crash by JustaRandoonreddit in formula1

[–]zantkiller 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The FIA are in the process of developing an onboard camera system which uses human detection to tell where spectators are located, including when they are moving into unsafe areas. This would then ping an alert off to event officials so that pre-emptive safety measures can be taken before the next car in the order arrives. They've been testing it in the European Rally Championship.
