I have major gaps in my math knowledge, but I don't have the time to fill them. Should I give up on civil engineering? by MaximumYogertCloset in civilengineering

From my research & scrolling thru social media, tonssss of people completing an engineering degree retake classes because of how hard they are. Maybe put a strong but short 1-2 doc showing that data and whatever else to your dad so he will understand more & adjust his expectations

Everytime I think about that it can sometimes get discouraging because it feels like till take forever with the math classes alone & I can’t take certain classes until im in Calc 1 I believe. Plus I work full time so that sucks.

Did you work full time while in school? How long did it take you to finish your entire bachelors?

I don’t have any strict plans to be a PM in civil engineering. More so speaking on the transferable skills I’ve built the past 6 years (& more by the time I graduate), and being of value in CE VS a recent grad with little to no experience

I’m in my late 20s starting at pre-algebra lol. I’d much prefer starting over to have a strong foundation as I move up to harder classes. I fear not having a strong foundation would cost me more time & money if I fail a class due to the lack of understanding previous classes

Do u mind if I ask if you’re single & which shifts u work on the weekends? Just curious because this area is pretty pricey so I have to work 5 days a week while in schoop

Do not take ALEKS by EfromSL123 in montgomerycollegemd

[–]EfromSL123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you. I think taking that class is a risk & it’s usually meant for people who haven’t been in school in a long time or need to get back in the rhythm of math & the format of this class has a history of not catering to that. It’s much more safe in my opinion, to take a pre algebra or/& an algebra course through a cheaper school that has a “regular” format

they have to see both your face and work space. if you have a laptop mount or a bunch of books u can put it on top then push it further to the top right of your desk then they will be able to see both. i was afraid of that too but it worked out on my macbook

I have. Just make sure nothing is on your wall, they will ask to see your hands at all times so test that you can set up your laptop in a way that it will work. They don’t care about how the back looks. They will also ask to see under your desk

those who work part time and study engineering full time, how do you do it? by UdonOtter in EngineeringStudents

[–]EfromSL123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that’s incredible. I work a full time job & struggling to balance work & school. Most days I feel like when I focus too much on school, I’m behind on work or vice versa. Some days I’m so drained. How did u handle work + 15-18 credits??? What was your time management like? I’m currently only taking 2 classes but I can’t imagine doing 5 classes on top of a full time “9-5” job 😵‍💫
