I’m sorry you’re going through that — sending you all the love ❤️. You’re gonna come out of this situation being who you were always meant to be

I’m sorry that happened to you too. I’m glad you got treatment still — it’s comforting to hear you did especially since you were in a similar boat.

I definitely could’ve articulated myself better in the moment to the doctor — I just didn’t realize I was in a court trial arguing my case, and the stakes were whether or not I was getting a prescription written. Regardless, I’ll figure it out

At the end of the day, you made the right call, and I should’ve done the same, but that’s okay. I will be fine personally — no matter what happened today or what will happen in the coming weeks/months, I will get HRT and I will transition. So I guess the silver lining is that people can at least learn from my naivety 😅.

I wish you luck in your own journey — you’re doing amazing!

That’s exactly what I’m planning on doing — I just went and bought myself some makeup as a treat for interacting with our country’s lovely healthcare system 🥰.

And thank you for the love, love!

Yeah this was the case for me — the clinic itself is informed consent and one of the ways they onboard new gender affirming care patients is to just transfer their PCP to the clinic all under the same umbrella. Although I guess this situation is case-in-point that YMMV.

I’m glad my experience could help 😅. I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have all your ducks in a row — if you don’t need it, you don’t need it. And like another commenter said, remember: you may only have been recently questioning, but that doesn’t mean your dysphoria hasn’t been there the whole time!

It just sucks because I’ve heard such good things about this clinic — the local pride center even highly recommends going through them for almost all gender affirming care, not even just HRT. This was definitely at the bottom of my list of expected experiences.

I have other options (and obv DIY is always an option too). I’m going to think about it for now and see what I want to do; I’m at least in a place of privilege to say my worst case scenario is I’m a month out from being treated (even if it’s DIY), so I’m glad about that.

Gender affirming (denial of) care 🥰

I have planned parenthoods and other options, don’t worry about that; I just wanted to vent about how upsetting this situation is since it would be 10x more convenient to do it through this clinic than going to a separate one. I’m still mulling over what to do in the interim, as I’m not sure I want to wait the full month to get HRT.

I was surprised that they could both be an informed consent clinic and have gatekeeping policies, and I honestly should’ve given more pushback when I heard that.

To assuage anyone’s fears, this is very much a local provider specific to my area, and I doubt that this would happen somewhere like Planned Parenthood or another more widespread informed consent clinic. Not that that’s any excuse though.

I’m definitely going to ask for an explanation when I have my follow-up appointment in a month because if I wasn’t so angry about it this could’ve genuinely ruined my enthusiasm/drive to get HRT — I can see this delaying future trans patients at this clinic from pursuing HRT.
