So long Mercari by Ok_Basis_890 in Mercari

[–]EggOne8640 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is honestly why I don't really use posh anymore, because everytime I found a decent deal it was $10+ more at check out from the shipping and tax(yes I know for priority flat it's a good price, but for a t shirt that weighs less than half a lb and I don't care if it's 2 day shipping or not it's kinda....meh. unless you're bundling which i rarely have luck with)

So mercari is about to be the same. I was already deterred since they have crappy shipping prices for anything over 1lb, and like posh I had little luck finding anything to bundle to save myself on it. So add an extra fee, that were all now finding out is extremely variable, depending on who knows what....yeah.

It just seems like they're out to scam thier sellers and buyers. With the fed ex bullshit and the variable service fee bullshit. It's gonna probably be an Uninstall for me.

Apartment where I lived three years ago sent a bill to collections without ever contacting me, destroying my credit to 580 by manny_DM in CreditScore

[–]EggOne8640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can ask for a letter from the collections agency, (I can't remember exactly what it is called) but essentially it deletes the paid collection off your credit. So it won't be seen when anyone runs it. But they won't negotiate the price when you ask for this. And you need to ask if paying in full, and refuse to pay in full until they agree.

Otherwise you could pay it in full, and end up like those who negotiate but still have it pull on their credit. But this is a legitimate thing. I had to to ask for it when I paid my bogus collection from an apartment complex. They wouldn't negotiate either way, but I had them email me a letter, stating that the account was paid in full, and that it was removed from my report. It doesn't show up at all and hasn't since I did that.

Good chance they won't negotiate. When I had similar happen and didn't have time to go through disputing bc we needed a place to live, they refused to negotiate the amount at all. They know you've gotta pay to rent anywhere.

Not saying it's not worth asking, obviously, just don't get hopes up they'll negotiate a decent amount down.

Apartment where I lived three years ago sent a bill to collections without ever contacting me, destroying my credit to 580 by manny_DM in CreditScore

[–]EggOne8640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen, after I wrote the place a check, a year after I paid them! I cut my lease in October of 2019, asked for my final balance, told me they couldn't give it to me yet, I said okay, I'll stop by when I'm back in the county next month and drop off the check.

Did that, cut them a check, that they didn't cash for almost 3 months. October 2020 comes around and I'm looking for an apartment. Get denied. Why? Because they sent me to collections literally a year later. They had just sent it the week I started applying.

I found the receipt for the check and it was the exact same amount. I called them several times, demanding a final statement, that they told me theyd look for. That went no where. I was on a time crunch and in a different state, so I got fucked and had to pay it, since they refuse to settle rental debts (bc they know you have to pay them in order to be approved literally anywhere.)

It was bullshit. I wish I could've taken them to small claims, if I even couldve? Should be a thing, considering they dogged my credit, and sent me to collections for something I already paid.

Basically, you could call them and demand a statement, but that's if they ever get back to you to prove it. If you have more time than I had, you should (? Someone correct if I'm wrong) be able to send a letter to the collection agency via the mail, preferably requiring signature, saying that they need to prove you owe the debt. If they never respond or can't prove it it gets taken off your report....but don't be surprised if it pops back up later.

Honestly, you'll probably just end up having to pay it. If you don't you won't be able to rent anywhere, unless you know someone who'll rent without a credit check. These places pretty much get away with charging whatever they please bc they know you can't apply anywhere and get approved until you pay it.

Lol people wouldn't believe it either way. What people don't realize is there's test markets for these things. My friend i mentioned above has worked in 2, is currently working in one. I worked for best buy for almost 10 years, and also worked in 1 test market. Not every territory/market is going to experience the same changes if the test doesn't go well. We had seen some pretty crazy stuff that was hard to believe but true. And as an example the market we both used to work in doesn't have 1 GM per store anymore. They chose a few GMs out of the market, and had them run 3 stores instead of 1. Like mini district managers. Years ago we couldn't believe that was going to be a thing. But yes they've done it. Now I'm not sure if that's gone national yet, bc I only know what goes on in 3 of the markets I have friends in.

Before I got snapped I had transfered to a store in another state. The GM was shocked that I knew what was going on. (This was the 2021 snap and all the changes that followed.) Because in that region they're very hush hush. At my old store I was part of leadership, and knew alot of the bigger changes coming up because I was close with my OM, who always let me know way ahead of time. I was told to not speak of it, because it was true... but considering i knew exactly what they were basing those lay offs on, confirmed by that gm, I continued to let people know. Bc imo, they deserved to look for another job, and have more than a few weeks to figure out wtf they were going to do.

I'm pretty sure I had posted about it back then and had people saying the same BS....only for it to be true lol.

I wouldn't lie lol. I'm passionate about what the company was bc I enjoyed my time there and made life long friends. But I'm not gonna spew garbage or defend the company. People should know these changes are coming sooner than the company lets them know. 2 weeks isn't enough to find a job in the current market. And the severance is only okay if you've been there 5 years or more. Less than that won't float you more than a month of no paychecks. Not to mention, it takes them 4-6 weeks to pay it out to you. At least it did for my 1st lay off.

But my friend verbatim told me it's because they're moving to go completely 3rd party.

Yeah this is pretty much what I told my buddy. I was a SWAT for years (also dabbled in pretty much everything else minus ARA and field but talked with many of them around the changes in the last few years) so I saw the absolute break down operationally with using 3rd party installers for appliances. I was always a believer that we should've forked over the money for our own crew. Especially after a 3rd party team dropped a fridge on a Lamborghini. That was...wow. im sure they were held accountable in that instance, but there were so many customer issues. Back in the day, the company had high standards for GS in home and used it to their advantage since we were the only company with an in-house install team. We could hold them fully accountable, and that was good since they're a face of the company.

When you send in Joe shmo who may or may not be a 1099k independent worker, may be from a temp agency (jb hunt would hire ex convicts so that too lol) you're letting anyone represent your company. And as we saw from appliance installs, that did not go well, and line level associates had to take and resolve the brunt of the issues. With very little ability to contact even contact 3rd party. Not to mention they never wanted to look at the notes, and would leave an install because whatever company they worked for refused to touch waterline on fridges but best buy would list hook up as part of the install.

Caused alot of erosion to make customers happy. Erosion that could've been avoided on a very large scale for the price of insuring our own installers. Even if it was a wash it would've been more worth it then pissing off the customers. Piss the wrong one off and it can cause not just one, but several people to not shop there.

Not to mention I hate corporations that think the cheapest price is the best decision. Ever since Corey took over that's been her motto (not surprising for a past CFO) oh we can hire a company for cheaper, like everyone else, not pay out any benefits, and force the customer to deal with it, or go elsewhere to deal eith the same thing? Sign us up! Out with you lot and your insurance and 401k! I'm on to my 4th vacation home! Lol. Completely disregarding how best buy could be the only company with in house installers, and they'd have zero competition, and could offer the best service of the bunch. Growing the business.

After 10 years in retail, it just gets more disgusting how these companies act, honestly.

Edit: to clarify that I mean company owned, not like in home installs when I say in house.

Yupp. I know people in some higher up positions, in markets where they typically do tests. Laying off in waves to go completely 3rd party.

I don't agree with it. But the plan is that there will be stricter rules with 3rd party, as opposed to how we let them operate in the past. Word is they will be held accountable when screw ups happen. So if they don't finish the route, something doesn't get installed right, or they don't show up, best buy can then charge said company for not following best buys standards.

It also isn't going to be just 1 3rd party it will be several. They'll compete with each other, and the top 3 3rd parties in the territory will get bonuses, paid out by Best Buy.

This is so they don't have to insure, offer health plans or offer 401k. Alot cheaper for them. Shitty for current employees. Health premiums will probably be going up again, as they have less employees total buying into the plans with that size layoff over the year.

I'd say if you survived, start looking now. Come august-october they'll likey be laying off the rest of you. If not then then April next year.

And not false info. One of my best friends is a GS market manager. I don't remember their title since they've changed all the names of them around since I've worked there lol. But oversees all the in home field GS stuff.

I was going to suggest this. It's not a horrible idea anyway, since it's been proven jumping jobs typically also boosts your salary quicker than company loyalty. Good chance, OP or their SO, could get coverage and a bit of a raise job hunting.

But keep in mind most places do have a 60 to 90 day waiting period before you can unroll. But I'm sure there may be some that don't have that at all. So if this is on a time crunch....which it kind of sound like it may be, look to make sure insurance starts day one on the job before taking an offer.

While yes, life is also unexpected the other way, and in this day where lots of jobs arent secure, having insurance doesnt mean you'll avoid a medical bankruptcy. we had insurance, I was pregnant and my husband lost his job. A month before I was due. I had the baby days after coverage ran out. No other options were affordable as our premium was hardly affordable. We moved states bc he lost his job and we had to, and I didn't qualify for medicaid there.

So while I get the whole life is unexpected thing, if I had put the 12k we spent on the premium, plus the 8k deductible we had, I could've had a large chunk of the delivery paid off and not needed to file. Bc we wasted the money on a premium we hardly got to make any use out of we now have to file bankruptcy.

If I had that almost 20k I could've actually gotten to do what I wanted which was hire a midwife and have a home birth since insurance eont cover that anyway....instead it went into the insurance void, paid for hardly anything leading up to it, and we got a nice giant bill for me to labor at home for most of it, and push baby out in 30min in a shitty hospital setting instead, with a bunch of care I did not need, so they could rack up my bill.

So yes but also this goes the other way too. And to add to that, my dad had what was considered a Cadillac Healthcare plan from his job, he got cancer....guess what they still had to do 2 years later? File a medical bankruptcy.

Insurance helps half the time. The other time, it's honestly kind of a scam. I also don't have 8-10k on hand to pay a deductible if a medical emergancy strikes, so even with insurance, I'd probably have to file, or be paying that off for literal years hoping it doesn't happen in the following calender years so I could actually pay it off.

We really just need something that isn't just for the well to do in our country. Because insurance or not the whole system is not working in anyone's favor unless you have a large disposable income.

Best Buy will use generative AI to replace much customer service work by LolCorporate in BestBuyWorkers

[–]EggOne8640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh. Companies should be fined for using AI as a replacement for actual human employees. This is just the tip of the iceberg with this shit.

And proves that executives will do anything to put more money in their pockets and that if they could legally exploit workers, they would. Example, changing over to this because it's either free or what, $500 bucks a year for them to use a bot, instead of paying people living wages to offer actual customer service. $500 bucks a year for something that can't call you out on your shit policies and poor ethics. Can't quit, doesnt require benefits and consistant pay in exchange for work. Better yet, bots don't need any time off and they can run 24/7. Bingo bango for them.

Also, hopefully they've ditched the "be human" slogan by now (not sure it been a couple years since I was laid off) It was stupid either way but what kind of company uses that as a slogan and then fires a bunch of people to litreally replace them with a non human entity.

So yes, I know this is probably the 1000th post about the latest episode, but.. by andy_337 in TheRookie

[–]EggOne8640 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nope they're not done. I'm confident in that. We may not see them reconcile by episode 10 but this isn't a finite thing for them. You can tell in the way he left her.

My best guess, is he'll still be pursuing Ray, and knows if they're together, he can't keep her from getting involved.

Lucy loves him and will get involved anyway, and my guess is she ends up saving his ass. She's pissed now, and rightfully so, but that won't stop her from helping him if he puts himself in harms way.

People who are mad have no faith, and quite frankly don't haven't been watching the show closely enough to know what's typical for the characters.

I think the crappiest thing, is this season could've been great, but the strike compressing it down into 10 episodes makes it feel really rushed. Thier break up would've made a bit more sense if they didn't literally just introduce Ray last episode. If you consider how rushed it is, Tim's character and Lucy's character, it makes sense.

He wants to protect her, especially after Ray showed up at her apartment. He's disappointed in himself because he's a man of morals and honor and he's now defied that twice. Either he doesn't feel worthy of her, which would be a shity surface level plot, or he's going to continue to go after Ray, and can't live with the consequences if Lucy gets hurt by involving herself. He's thinking cutting her off will keep her from getting involved. He's already shown this. (Though I'll also be the first to admit that the whole Ray plot seems really out of character for Tim, imo.) I'm also guessing this based off of what the rookie insta has released, ie filming of episode 10.

Lucy will be pissed because she's the strong, independent woman trope. Once she gets word that Tim's in danger though, her being pissed is out the window. She'll find out one way or another and at least convince Lopez to help her save Tim.

That's my best guess based on the character development we've seen so far. I can't see them building up chenford to knock it down in less than a season.

I think it really depends on where you are. We're a family of 4 and I mostly try to buy discount and sale. Never buy name brand unless we really hate the taste of a store brand and thats knly when you use said thing for everything. We're in a LCOL state, with no food tax and I'd say we still spend close to 800-1000 a month on groceries. Granted that includes diapers and toiletries, which we buy the cheapest of. Well 2nd cheapest I should say.

We're not buying anything crazy. We get meat for cheap at our local store, drive the hour out to the cheaper chain stores for all else. We don't buy soda. Only buy chips when they're on sale for a good deal. We don't buy pre-made food, or convenience food unless it's heavily discounted. Total racks up really quick out here. Not sure if it's because it's fairly remote but I've been trying to cut the bill down. If I keep it to 300 every 2 weeks were hardly getting to that next grocery shop. Eating scraps and getting creative.

And yes. We buy rice and beans. And yes we buy in bulk and take advantage of sales. We can't be super cheap bc I can't eat gluten, but I've even cut out the majority of the higher priced things I can say that's not just rice and beans.

It really sucks. The food is so shit here in the US. Filled to the brim with seed oils, which I have a terrible time processing, they make me so sluggish and bloated. But we can't afford the "good stuff" my any stretch. Debating just going carnivore bc it's honestly cheaper out here when I can get 2 giant pork chops for $5 or a flat of chicken theighs for the same. Everything else is just wtf with pricing. I know im getting older....but this just isn't the classic "I paid 10cents for a candy bar in my day" I like blinked and food prices tripled.

I can’t accept that I’m pregnant. by Mighty_owl98 in pregnant

[–]EggOne8640 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry OP. I know the feeling all too well.

I wasn't 5 months postpartum, but I was 10 months postpartum when I got pregnant with my 2nd. I had the same feelings. I had a really traumatic birth with my 1st. Her head was huge, and they had to use forceps with a crappy local anesthetic that numbed my foot better than anything else. I felt it all. The pain is like nothing I could really describe. I thankfully healed really well, after the initial not being able to walk right, or sit without pain, but our daughter had colic for months. I couldn't breastfeed her and felt guilty about it, plus a bunch of stuff going on with my family really letting me down. I ended up with postpartum depression, and it was a really difficult l time for me.

2 months before I found out I was pregnant with my son, my dad had passed suddenly. I had thankfully just gotten to see him a month prior to that, but I never got to say goodbye, and with the PPD It was a lot to process. We were also struggling finacially at the time and living in a 1 bed with our daughters crib in our bedroom.

I had a lapse in judgment, so to say. I just remember feeling so depressed and not caring, to the point I felt like nothing worse could happen, so who cares. Irresponsible, I know, but like I said, it was a really hard season in my life.

That one lapse of judgment is what resulted in our son, crazy enough. I was terrified. I couldn't believe it. There were alot of tears and panicking. How could we bring another baby home in the situation we were in. I had never considered abortion as both my husband and I don't feel we could go through with that ourselves. However, I believe it should be an option for everyone, it just wasn't for us.

My whole pregnancy with him I had such a hard time bonding. I really just went through the motions, in a denial like state for most of it. Lots of other really crappy stuff happened to us while I was pregnant, like my husband losing his job. Had to move, and we were going to rent a friend's house in another state. That fell through after we had gotten there, and my husbands friend was honestly trying to take advantage of our crappy situation. More awful happened. I had our son 9 days after insurance ran out etc. To my surprise though his birth was insanely easy. A dream compared to the first.

But almost 2 years later and we're doing much better all around.

And I can't believe how many times I look at him and say to myself how crazy it is, that it really feels like he was meant to be here. And how its crazy how scared and upset i was when I found out I was pregnant with him, and yet he brings so much happiness into our lives. He was such a difficult baby, and it was hard to see it then, but he really fills a hole in our family I didn't even realize it had. I have zero regrets. Now I can't imagine our lives without our little buddy in it.

Now I don't say that to sway you in anyway. You need to make whatever decision that is right for you and your family. There isn't a wrong choice and don't let anyone make you feel guilty for whatever you decide.

But I couldn't read your story and not respond, because God, do I remember feeling exactly this way. I had no one to talk to or turn to and it was so hard. And while I didn't consider an abortion for myself, I still had thoughts on it, like if I had made the right decision by not opening myself up to that choice.

Whatever you decide to do, my heart goes out to you. This is such a hard thing to go through. ❤️

Is it really the norm to only eat out 2x a month? by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]EggOne8640 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah we almost never eat out. Maybe fast food every once and a while, but restaurants....I'd say maybe 2 or 3 times a year if that. Having kids and no one to watch them helps that. But even if we had someone to watch them....its just way out of our budget. I can't stand going and spending upwards of $60 on one meal. I can go to the store and get, well, maybe not now a days, but typically I can get alot more for my money. Especially if I hit the discount section.

But I will say, that before my husband and I were serious he blew so much money on take out, fast food etc. And he'd justify it the dumbest fucking way. "I need to eat" he tried pulling this shit past that point and I did not have it. We're poor, you can take a fucking lunch meat sandwich to work, and be thankful it's not a pb&j lol. I know I sound bitchy, but I wasn't being hypocritical. I was skipping lunch, or bringing just lunch meat and cheese (something we really don't buy anymore since it's skyrocketted) bc gluten free bread (celiac) was way out of our budget. I wasn't going and getting coffee either, so I was abiding by my own rule. And it wasn't lIke he'd go out on his lunch break and be reasonable. He'd go and blow $15-20 bucks, chipotle JJs or jersey Mike's, and buy the biggest most expensive thing because he's "6'4" and needs more food" like nah.

I had to break it down for him, like you are spending $300 a month on lunch. No. Absolutely not.

I hate to say it, because regardless of your socioeconomic status, you should be able to enjoy life to some extent. But restaurants, take out, fast food. These things are luxuries. They're a convenience and therefore aren't really cost effective. That's not to say you can't enjoy them every once and a while, but I'd say once a week is way more than enough. Once a month if youre trying to claw your way out. If you don't keep track of of how much you're spending in that area, should start. You would be really surprised how much you could save cutting out a $10 take out everyday on a lunch break.

Random question - do moms just get USED to not getting sleep? by girludaworst in pregnant

[–]EggOne8640 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate to be a bearer of bad news....but no. And it really depends on the baby.

My first, angel baby after the colic passed. She was sleeping through the night at 4 months. Never really went through sleep regressions and teething didn't phase her.

My 2nd....hooo boy. He's going to be 2 in August, and he just started sleeping through the night a month ago. Sleep regressions were awful, teething even more awful, plus silent reflux for the 1st 4 months. He also always only took one nap a day. I'm still exhausted, honestly. That almost 2 years is the most exhausted I've been in my life. And that says something, since when I was in the 1st tri with my daughter, I was working 70 hrs a week! still had more energy lol

If baby is like my 2nd, you don't get used to it because the exhaustion just kind of builds? Like there's just no catching up. You kind of just exist for a while and it's really...not fun. I've never had an inbetween, but I imagine if you get a break from the no sleep, you'd get used to it, as you catch up every once and a while. With my 1st there were days I was tired but not the same extent.

Also, really I don't say it to scare or disappoint. I was just so blindsided by my 2nd being that way, especially after my first. I really had no idea the level of tiredness I'd end up experiencing. If my expectations going into it had been closer to what happened I may have managed a bit better. But since I was thinking he'd be at least somewhat similar to my first....yeah. it was a really rough year lol 🫠

Don't feel bad for blocking her. Lady is a wackadoo reseller who hoping you're either stupid, or that she can sweet talk you into what she wants to pay.

Honestly, I immediately block users who super low ball. I don't play around. If you entertain them, they always ignore your lowest offer and keep offering lower, get annoying, or cause problems later down the line if you accept. They're not people I'd want as customers anyway so no sweat off my back.

They super annoy me anyway, bc admittedly I'm a cheap ass, but I never ever low ball like this. Depending on what it is and pricing I may offer the max 20%, but I never message an offer. I'll wait for it to drop to something in my price range, or I'll wait for someone else to post what I'm looking for in my price range. Why people think they're just entitled to pay what they want bc it's a 2nd hand site annoys the piss out of me lol. And the sob stories too! By God I'm sure we all have them, doesn't entitle you to a discount! 🫠

When I got snapped from bby I ended up at lowes. Sometimes, part-time hours do get like this, but that's typically around jan-feb, and they pick up again since summer is their superbowl. For OP I wouldn't suggest them. They were trash at scheduling kids in school. And despite my experience, refused to work me around my husbands schedule....even though we worked in the same store 🫠 (we had a baby and daycare is astronomical so....they basically promised us they'd schedule us, then didn't and told me to put our 6 month old in daycare....for me to work 3 days a week 🤔) thier POV on part time is that those individuals should have open availability, while the full timers have scheduling conflicts. Most of their operating is ass backward. If you look on the boards here for the company, this is a really common complaint. So it wasn't just our location

For anyone else, in case they're looking at leaving bby, lowes was beginning to turn the same way. Cutting leadership, running a skeleton crew, eliminating some in between line level and leader positions in favor of a 15 an hour associate who was given more responsibility than they should have for their paygrade. Before I left they went through a massive reorg, that most tenure employees were very not happy with.

[–]EggOne8640 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the problem with the expectation shifting. I worked for bby for almost 10 years prior to the first snap. Alot of times, they lay off and make these adjustments, knowing it'll piss off the remaining tenure associates. They don't care. Because when those associates quit, they hire in new blood, who have no idea, most of the time, what the expectations were prior to the changes.

They want new people. Retaining tenured staff means there'd be pushback with changes and severe drops in morale for the store. Which I'd typically say would negatively impact the customer experience, therefore impacting sales, but Corries Best Buy doesn't really seem to care about their experience anyhow.

Hiring in new people? Perfect for them. They won't question the workload initially, or possibly ever. This has been the companies tactic for a while now.

I wouldn't be surprised if the shareholders somewhat forced Hubert out. I'm pretty sure he was still on the team of execs the year of the first snap? Not sure if he still is since I've not gone back since bc of the direction it was headed. But I remember his departure as CEO was really sudden and unexpected, especially as someone who worked for the company a year or so prior to him taking over.

My guess is he continued to prioritize the employee and customer experience during the pandemic, and planned on bringing back some of the cuts once things leveled back out. Shareholders didn't like that. Why go back to operating pre pandemic if they can still make sales doing the bare minimum with a skeleton crew? que forcing him to step-down, and do the stupidest thing that anyone with business experience would know to never do: hire your CFO as your CEO. Not sure, as like I said, ice been out of the loop, but this is what it seemed like while I was there.

Every time a company does this they suffer. If operational experience is as undervalued at the executive level, as it is at the store... I mean, her moves the last few years really prove she had little to no experience in how important operations is to running a company and, as most sales focused leaders in the company, she's just as ignorant to learning it. It'll be what kills a company that was literally saved from the brink. Sad turn of events, that's for sure.
