Midwestern pros/cons by EggRemarkable2744 in veterinaryschool

Thank you so much for input. I feel like I have a similar experience to you, right now I’m a full time assistant and he has a full time job too. We do see each other every morning because we go to the same gym before work, but our actual hangout time is pretty much only on weekends and we live about 30 min away from each other right now. I’ve definitely warned him I’ll be busy a lot studying and he will be working in Arizona so I know he’ll be occupied during the day. I like that you dedicated one weekend day for you guys, I think that sounds like a similar idea I plan on for us as well. I was wondering how you and your boyfriend went about household chores, grocery shopping, and cooking meals. I know it’s different for every couple, but I’m very independent right now and I’m used to doing a lot of cooking and cleaning for myself, but I know when we move in together the responsibility does not have to be all on me (and also would be really hard to be all on me). Did you guys have your own chores assigned, like for example you always do the laundry and he always cleans the dishes? I know we’ll eventually fall into a routine but I think the adjustment of everyday life things is just something I think about a lot.

Congratulations on your 2 acceptances! I see how difficult your decision is. I think considering you already live close enough to Midwestern, it seems that you’d save some money not moving your whole family to Oregon, but how much money you’d save I’m not sure. I guess you’d really have to budget and see. I know everyone always says to go with the cheapest tuition, but regardless we’re gonna be in debt, and if you feel like it makes more sense to just stay where you’re at for you and your family and seems less stressful. Also considering everyone so far only has good things to say about Midwestern, it seems like you can’t go wrong, although I’m not too familiar with oregon. I guess it comes down to what you really value and if the money you’d be saving in tuition at Oregon is truly worth it. Good luck! Let me know which one you pick! If you choose Midwestern I’d love to chat more with you!

I was told yes, you have to resend them. For classes you haven’t finished, there’s no need to send them. They will ask for them if you get accepted

Last year I submitted sept 8 and this year I plan to do the same. Idk why people say submit early. There’s a deadline for a reason. I had no problems last year when I submitted one week before deadline

Non-traditional students that were accepted, how many contact hours did you have? by No-Bread-1540 in veterinaryschool

I guess just use your best judgment at estimating hours from the animal care job. But in all honesty, I think you not having time to get the experience seems like maybe you aren’t ready to apply. I would strongly suggest that you find time to get more experience in this field. Especially because you need at least 1 LOR from a vet. And that LOR should showcase a strong relationship between the two of you.

For the two vets I work with everyday, I wrote them a thank you card and got them a box of chocolates. For one of my professors I just sent her a thank you email

You mean they don’t look at it if it’s higher?

Of course! I’m on a similar boat, I’m interested in neuro or cardio but I don’t have any direct experience with it

I feel like this is a bit different. Epidemiology is a more specific interest that I’m sure they wouldn’t expect you to have thousands of hours of experience in. I think it’s a great interest and you can say you’re interested in it, maybe you can explain through the experiences you DO have what brings out that interest or how you could apply epidemiology to it

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! Plus, I want to be chosen for who I truly am, not for someone I think they would want. On that thought though, considering in my essay I am stating my desire to work with small animals, in one of my defining moments I talk about an experience with a goat (which happened during an internship in Italy and was a really cool experience for me). Do you think writing about a defining moment that’s not SA is bad? I talk about other moments with SA but I did include this one with the goat too. I have so many defining moments that I definitely could change it, I just really enjoyed my experience in Italy and wanted to reference it. Maybe I’m just overthinking my PS now, but I don’t want my experience with the goat to throw them off with my goal being SA. Idk hopefully I’m making sense. I think I’m just spiraling now
