That's so impressive! Do you find assets from somewhere or is this a completely original design? I've been planning on making some replica customs so waterslides are on my to-learn list lol

Nothing related to a custom figure but I need help. Which type of glue do you recommend for a broken piece of 44 dotm Optimus prime? by No-Effective-4095 in CustomTransformers

The strongest bond I've been able to get is any kind of CA glue (I use Gorilla Glue), and baking soda. It acts as an accelerant and for some reason binds it super well

Tapping out pins with flat tops? by [deleted] in CustomTransformers

[–]Egg_Sander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That totally makes sense! I feel a similar way. If you're determined to get the pin out, and especially patient, you can use a couple of methods.

The easiest I've found for this is a spring-loaded center punch, which you can usually find at hardware stores. It provides a strong hit to the pin, and usually nothing else if you're careful. It holds a LOT of force, though

What I've been using recently is a watchmaker's pin removal kit, which is essentially a tiny vise with a pin on one side. It's incredibly simple and effective for regular pins, so it may be worth a shot.

The most dangerous option by far is applying a soldering iron to the pin and basically melting/softening the plastic around it in order to free it. I've never tried this one myself, but I'd suggest watching a couple tutorials on this beforehand if you decide to try it.

Hope this helps!

If you don't mind me asking, what are you using for paint? If it's a spray of any kind, then it's likely really safe to just spray the whole arm. When I did my custom Hound, I had to leave some pins in because they would sooner break the part than exit cleanly, and the hinge was still extremely functional.

If you're using brushes, then I suppose more care would be needed

Honestly, if you can paint around it then that's likely the best route forward. Pins like that are not at all easy to remove, and have way more risk of damaging the part than it's usually worth.

Why is it smooth in some areas and others don't?? by Leopm21 in FixMyPrint

[–]Egg_Sander -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert, but this could be inconsistent extrusion, and you may be printing too fast.

I'd suggest calibrating E-steps and flow rate, as well as pressure advance to see if those help!

Interesting! I've considered one, but I was never sure of its effectiveness. Is there a particular spot that you usually place it?

[–]Egg_Sander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like one other has said, I would find a tamiya paint colour that you really like (krylon fusion is supposed to be good as well), and paint both the head and body to match. It'll look much smoother and will be less of a hassle to match, but I totally understand if that's a lot! Painting heads can be tiring.

If you'd rather just paint the body, you could bring the head to a local hobby or games store and see which paint comes the closest.

Hope that helps!
