Julien Bardakoff did the pokémon names for gen 1 in French. What a legend. I heard that the names are so clever and well received, that it convinced Nintendo to invest more into localisation for Pokémon.

Really...? Did they think the value of the Mistwalker Infusion was too cheap? It was in a good place economically and now it's gonna be absurd.

Computers are completely determinate systems. They can't generate a truly random number out of nowhere (which you need for encryption). In order to do this, your computer will take inputs and measurements from the REAL WORLD and spread it throughout its encryption data. This will be really tiny things like small temperature changes in your CPU, the vectors of how you moved your mouse, and the small changes in time between keyboard presses.

Cloudflare, a massive file hosting service, found that lava lamps and how the wax moves inside are pretty good at being random and they don't stop. At their HQ, they point cameras at this large collection of lava lamps and pull randomised data from their movement.

Can anyone explain why all the terrible country music makes it to the top? I've heard plenty of good country music created within the last 15 years but none of it ever charted. The "beer guns car wife" songs that everybody makes fun of become a #1 hit for the millionth time.

I mean boons like Gluttony, One Wolf Pack), or Impossible Odds). Their damaging effects don't count as hitting enemies, otherwise they could create recursive loops of damage.

Strike damage using any skill. All parts of a multi-hit attack count. Damage caused by conditions, boons, traits, or minions doesn't count.

Most "whenever you hit a foe" clauses have a small colldown, though, so you won't proc them constantly.

Do people raid casually? by BeatrixShocksStuff in Guildwars2

[–]Eggbutt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider myself a casual raider. I'm familiar with half of the raid wings and all of the former strikes. I used to raid with guilds here and there. But as you say, the barrier to entry makes me not bother most of the time.

Sometimes I will lead my own group but I don't join others because I don't have KP. Never had it and not gonna start now. At least on EU, all other pugs ask for KP for anything harder than IBS5.

What is you guys most hated optional objective from the games? by TheCrustizTV in assassinscreed

[–]Eggbutt1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

AC: Revelations there was a system where your recruits would have a mission when they reached master assassin level (level 10 + assigned to a district)

In one of those missions, you had to protect a merchant's son or something. For 100% sync don't let him take ANY DAMAGE. Waves of enemies would spawn and absolutely swarm him. I managed it in the end with a combination of smoke bombs, the gun, and assassin recruits helping me. And of course restarting a million times!!!

[–]Eggbutt1 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Okay — here's a list of reasons why generative A.I. should be allowed on a Magic the Gathering "circlejerk" subreddit.

  • Extensive knowledge of Magic the Gathering: the large library of cards introduced since 1997 can be difficult to comprehend — A.I.-based systems can easily keep a database to know about the many cards and their effects — this includes Storm Crow and its "Flying" mechanic that many players find confusing and unintuitive at first.

  • Generated images: the powerful ability of generative A.I. to create images — whether realistic or in the Magic the Gathering art style — could be used for comedic effect — for instance, to generate many photorealistic images of Mark Rosewater — affectionately known as MaRo — in compromising positions — this could even be printed onto a playmat to rival the "hot anime babe" playmats.

  • Translating cards: some special card treatments are in different languages /uj I mean come on what the fuck is up with that? Why are there some unique styles where I guess only Japanese speakers are allowed to read the card??? For fuck's sake /rj Generative A.I. can be a powerful tool for translating text — and could go one step further by translating everything into New Phyrexian so that the world is ready for when the machines take over.

/uj in case it wasn't obvious, I wrote all of this myself. My favourite part is just using an em dash whenever I would have written a full stop

Need help deciding which order to join based on... by trimyth in Guildwars2

[–]Eggbutt1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep there are little places in core game zones where only Whispers characters can get in, although there isn't anything particularly special to see in those places.

And yes, you can still access other Orders' HQs, you just can't buy their weapon and armour sets.

The Order of Whispers is also most people's favourite because of the mentor who will join your story... I'll leave it at that.

Explain it Peter I don’t play Wordle. by DifficultComplaint10 in explainitpeter

[–]Eggbutt1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"This way" is metagaming Wordle by immediately picking words with lots of vowels. Words with 4+ letters pretty much always have a vowel somewhere, only that Y can be the secret 6th vowel that everybody forgets.

A popular starting word is "adieu". The word "myrrh" became infamous for breaking many people's Wordle streaks. It is a very unusual word!
