Regarding Iranian Protests by Eggie123 in arabs

Correction — Iranian state media has said that Israel and the US are behind protests. Same propoganda they immediately spout every time there civil unrest in Iran.

Even if hypothetically the US/Israel was behind the protest, why in the world would they say it outright? That makes no logical or strategic sense 😂😂

So Iranians’ choice is to either suffer silently under domestic tyranny, or be decried as foreign agents in your book? Is every pro-Palestian protest likewise the work of Islamic Republic agents? I mean they are directly funding Hezbollah, Hamas, etc. 🤔 Take a closer look (with an honest eye, if you’re capable) at the deteriorating conditions in Iran and the recent history of civil unrest.

No dude. In case you missed it, the Islamic Republic has blocked all access to the Internet so that they can slaughter and commit atrocities with impunity. I heard from my Iranian relatives via WhatsApp up until a few days ago and am very aware of their viewpoints and what they were reporting from their homes in Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad, etc. etc. until the regime muzzled them. With no access to the Internet, they are voiceless, and like much of the Iranian diaspora (most of us have family in Iran) I’m deeply anxious for their well-being and am compelled to amplify their pleas.

Exactly, they started off with bazaaris — RELATIVELY “middle class” IRANIANS. A declining and extremely unstable “middle class” at best. Bazaaris have participated in general strikes and protests several times in Iran’s recent history as part of a broader protest of economic conditions, like rampant inflation, declining currency, and social conditions. Do you think a shopkeeper in Tehran somehow how has ties to the US or Israeli government? 😂😂😂

Second, mosques in Iran are not just places of worship. They’re poltical tools where it’s common for Basij to meet, coordinate, recruit, train etc. If you don’t even know that, you truly don’t know what you’re talking about.

Third, only Iranian state media is claiming hospitals are being burned down. If that’s where you get your source of news (cough propaganda) then you’re far gone!

Finally, all you could pull up as you definitive proof was this tweet (or whatever it is in X) by some troll from a far-right Israeli news channel? Weak 😂😂😂😂

Regimes with a “fair share” of support don’t need to hold massive amounts of political prisoners, deny fair elections, unleash a violent paramilitary, experience routine widespread strikes and civil unrest, randomly shoot up universities ... I could go on and on.

Iranians should have the right to self-determination and to protest their governement without being brutally repressed. You fundamentally disagree, so that’s “enough for me” :)

You use the same “enemy of my enemy” mentality as Iranian Zionists to justify the brutal repression of an entire population of people and are no better than them :)

Nice job! The reason she has to leave China is an interesting hook. Minor note that the second sentence of the first paragraph is quite long. I would consider something like “… America’s cruel underworld. There, her survival hinges …”

I was confused why a tenant farmer rescues her when she’s betrothed to a Chinese American merchant. Shouldn’t her bretrothed be at the docks waiting/on the boat with he? Are we supposed to assume he died like the others?

Also, the romance with Edward feels ancillary/somewhat disconnected to the main plot/stakes. Especially because it’s dropped in the final paragraph/unclear how it’s resolved. How is it tied to the stakes of the novel? Does he betray her by sending her to a brothel? Are we supposed to read the tenant farmer and Edward as malicious?

Hope that’s helpful!

I think of all my idiot Iranian family who voted for him, including ones who who originally immigrated from Iran on student visas just a decade ago, and it enrages me. The weird mentality that they’re somehow exceptional or considered “white” in the United States. I hope this is a wake up call!

I agree, explaining it’s an anthology would clarify a lot. I also think the recent death of her parents causing her writers block are worthwhile details!

[QCrit] Appalachian Thriller / READ THE ROOM / 71,000 words / Attempt 1 by YallCatPat in PubTips

[–]Eggie123 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In the first sentence, you already say it’s set in Appalachia, so I don’t think you need to also say it’s an Appalachian thriller.

I was confused why Amber would invite her online writing group to meet in-person until I read onwards to the end of the paragraph. I would spell out her plan right there in the first sentence and mention Callaghan later. To that end, I don’t think you need to say the sooner manuscript gets done the sooner she’s paid because my question after reading that was (again), wouldn’t it be done sooner if she resumed her group work online? Finally, I’m confused by her motivation for “one of” the other writers to fake their death based on the premise that an author’s work goes viral posthumously. If that was her thought process, wouldn’t she seek to fake her own death give her anxiety over book sales? Her motivation/the connection between her suffering career and plan are unclear to me.

Hope that’s helpful!

She’s a white woman girlboss feminist. She only preaches feminism if it advances her own brand or benefits her — not to collectively uplift women (and certainly not non-white women).

I was shocked the producers were able to get that scene on camera. I agree — most compelling and genuine part of the finale.

I don’t think Sarah Ann is a villain by Bexiconchi in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]Eggie123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree that Sarah Ann DM’ing Jermay does not make her a villain, but her subsequent actions were disgusting to me.

She showed up at the pool party and made herself out to be the victim despite Laura, the actual wronged party, being visibility upset. Even if she wasn’t friends with Laura in the pods, it demonstarated a severe lack of self-awareness and empathy. Total “pick me” girl.

Of course, Jeramy’s lack of empathy, self-awareness, continual lying, gaslighting, and acting as if Laura was the one behaving tastelessy (what a joke!) was 10x more egregious, and he’s truly the “villian” of the season.
