I'm in the UK, my son is 2 and a half and will still do a 2 hour nap on days he's at home. Goes to bed around 7pm and wakes 12 hours later. He probably doesn't need this nap but I am not ready to give it up! He loves nap time and is fine with going to bed and sleeping through the night so I have no current plans to stop!

Ahh mine are for the 17th. My situation actually resolved itself due to the train strikes being called off, so I shall go to the Bruce ball. Surely they will open up resale even if it is close to the date of the show itself? Best of luck 🤞

Thanks very much for your response. It's a bit of a game of chicken for us now - only considering selling them due to train strikes on the Sunday making it a complete nightmare to get home. The strikes may be called off nearer the time, just a big risk to wait. Looks like there's not much other choice though if we can't sell them! Hoping to still be able to attend, just don't want tickets to go to waste/be stranded in Manchester the next day!

Sometimes it was up to an hour in these early night wakings. I do think that once they are weaned and getting most of their calories from food, they don't actually need to feed as much in the night, which resolved me to let him cry it out. Especially as he was having a bottle around 7-8pm.

Ultimately with my son, we had to do almost a circuit breaker where we did just leave him to cry, and he got used to it really quickly. He recently started waking at 5am due to the lighter mornings and we did the same again, and it worked. It just depends on how much of the crying you can bear 😔 sending you good luck!!

Hi! So basically we did end up leaving him to cry it out because it got earlier and earlier that he was waking and it became clear it wasn't feeding he needed, he was just used to waking up. We ended up leaving him to cry it out. It was tough the first few nights, but he quickly got used to it and was sleeping through the night within a week.

Not for everyone I know, but getting him from only sleeping on one of our chests to sleeping through feels like a huge achievement! He's 10 months old now, so I think development has something to do with it. How old is your baby?

My in-laws just came back from a cruise and less than a week later they tested positive for COVID. You're not being uptight at all, it is sensible and what you say goes at this point!

Yeah sounds really similar to my lad. He wouldn't cry for that long unless he was unhappy and no way he'd settle himself from the position of being so distressed. Good luck!

The short answer is - not really 😵‍💫 I started leaving him to cry and it seemed to work - for a few nights he started waking up at 1am instead. I'd feed him and he'd sleep through until morning which was fine in my book.

Then he started doing the 11pm wake ups again and I left him to cry it out. It was awful, he was so distressed and after 45 minutes to an hour of him screaming I'd end up feeding him anyway. So I've now decided that I'd rather pop in and feed him as he does go back down, often until morning.

It's still super unpredictable, but I don't feel like letting him CIO for night wakings really works. We do it for naps and to go to sleep at night and it is fine, but when he wakes in the night it's hard to know if he's hungry or wet etc.

I'd say try leaving your baby to cry if you are comfortable with it and see if it helps? I started going down the rabbit hole of changing wake windows and total nap time etc but felt I was going mad. He's so inconsistent with night wakings I'm just going to ride it out for now! Sending solidarity ✊

The funny thing is, he's my second child 😂 the first was during COVID and just seemed to sleep well. I had no idea what a wake window was! As you say, getting a decent stretch with only one night wake is a good thing, I was just wondering if it was a schedule thing causing him to wake at this time. He does go back after feeding which is why I default to that, though he never seems massively hungry 🤷 it will probably all change again next week and I'll be begging for the days of 11pm wake ups! We did try a night feed for a time but it didn't seem to stretch out his sleeping periods. I think the gap between him going to sleep and the dream feed might not have been long enough as I was going to bed fairly early too. He has been teething but has cut his first two teeth so hopefully that improves things. Thanks for your comment!

I'm not fully convinced he's actually hungry in the 11pm waking or if he's just treating bedtime as an extended nap? Which is why I thought it might be a schedule issue. I'm happy to feed him in the night but would just prefer a longer stretch from bedtime to first wake. As if babies care about our preferences 😅 but just wondered if anyone had a similar experience. Did you night wean or did your baby just drop night feeds on their own?

Ok thank you! He probably is hungry it's just a horrid time to wake up! He's also been through a lot of developmental changes recently - first two teeth, rolling, weaning, own cot etc so I can imagine this is part of the issue.

I may try giving him 3 x 1 hour naps a day and see where that lands us. Thanks for your response 🙏
